Spencer Hawes, Clippers Agree Upon Four-Year, $23M Deal

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Sat Jul 5, 2014 12:36 am

Spencer Hawes and the Los Angeles Clippers have agreed upon a four-year, $23 million deal.

Hawes finished last season with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Hawes is unlikely to be moved to the Clippers in a sign-and-trade.

What are you laughing at? You do realize that he avg like 15ppg before he went to CLE, right? Upgrade over Glen Davis because of his size and range. Not D. Jordan wont have to play 4th quarter and shrink the court. Now, if Blake or Jordan is off the court, that pick and roll with one of them can still be maximized by haing 3pt shooters to make the help D pay. I thought that Hawes or Frye were final pieces to get them possibly to the finals because glen davis and granger as bigs killed them.

Now if they get Pierce too, they gotta be favs, right? Maybe. They were 1 game away from 2 seed. Could all depend on Gasol.
Peja, Iverson, CP3, T-Mac, Starks, Artest. Will never get over how the 01-02 Kings got cheated by the refs.

A great pickup for the Clippers, except it might not do them much good depending on what other teams do.
IF OKC gets Gasol like they are rumored to, that's a much bigger addition IMO.
SAS can also luck out with Boozer, which would also be a larger improvement
HOU may get Melo, also a bigger improvement.

LAC so far has lost Collison and added Hawes. They still need to upgrade the wings (Pierce?) and find a backup point (Hinrich? Ridnour? Udrih? Pargo?)

I think they can still get Pierce due to him liking Doc, being from Cali and Paul/Griffin being there.
If they get Pierce on top of Hawes and shore up the back court, MAYBE it's an actual improvement.
Still, you've got to look at how much other teams improve to be able to judge if they can make it out of the West or not.

In my eyes I thought they should have beat the Thunder - the league REALLY screwed the Clippers during the playoffs NUMEROUS times.

That is a great signing for the Clippers. Now what will the Warriors do to counter. I'm not sure Ezeli can guard Hawes out to the 3 point line where I think he can be deadly.

They Clips still need some help at PG. This is going to be a battle. Lots of good teams in the west.

its nice to see you adding to the convo.

it's a good pick up but i agree they need a couple more additions to really be considered a favorite. actually they need to really improve to be considered a favorite, getting a player like pierce just puts them into contender status imo

They are already contenders but lost to another contender in the second round. If the Clips were in the East they would have cruised to the finals.

Yeah, um, they had their struggles in the playoffs last year but both of their starting bigs are only getting better every year, and Hawes is a huge add for them. Griffin/Jordan with Davis/Granger backing up are one of the most limited rotations of bigs in terms of shooting. Hawes is probably the best shooting center in the nba. You really think that won't make a difference?
Now if they lose Collison as a backup guard and still rely on Reddick/Barnes for their 2/3 they probably won't make the finals over the thunder/spurs and the generally deep west, but Hawes will be a big difference maker for them.

Wow! That's a real bargain for the Clips!
Hawes is a starter in this league, better than half starting centers there is.
Having him coming of the bench is great, having him for 5.5M a year is even better!
Okafor - Noel - Saric - Wroten - Embiid

He was an unrestricted free agent, free to go. Cleveland may have wanted him back, although chances are that Hawes was looking for something else.

Collison is going north to Sacramento where he was told he will be the starting point guard. Clippers now turn their attention to a back up point guard, perhaps Jordan Farmar.
Hawes is a very good addition for the Clips.

Hawes is a big, but nothing more than a stretch big. The Clippers playoff problems stem from not having solid interior play. This move helps in the regular season.....but for the playoffs don't see it making any difference.

Not a bad signing
What you know about Dirk’s leadership skills is non existent. You don’t have a clue. Your ability to evaluate leadership skills….well you obviously have an overinflated value of your own. Did you take business classes at Marquette?

So, they get Byron Mullens in a trade, and he never sees the floor, even though he's a capable stretch big. The Clippers think the way to do things, then, is to drop 6mil a year on Hawes? Don't get it.
