Rudy Gay Wants To See How Kings Develop Before Discussing Extension

Rudy Gay opted into his $19.3 million player option with the Sacramento Kings for the 14-15 season and is in no rush to sign an extension.
The Kings are interested in signing Gay to an extension, but he would like to see how the team develops.
“I don’t want to create a big fuss like it was before, but I’m taking my time,” Gay said. “I’m open to doing things, but I really want to see where the organization is going.”
Gay said he would have tested the market if he would have opted for free agency this summer.
“If I was going to opt out, I was definitely going to look at my options on different teams,” Gay said. “But with me opting in, I’m not saying no extension is going to happen. I’m just trying to see where we’re going as a team and how we plan on getting better.”

Not since he was traded to Sacto. Avg'd 20-6-3 on 48% in Sac. On Tor he was terrible, & he's still not worth 19m at all, but he's hated on so much for something he changed after the trade.

Maybe he should develop before they discuss an extension with him
He's been stealing money for multiple years....every team he leaves gets better. Maybe he should focus on everything but scoring.

Is it his fault someone signed him to a max contract? Teams are learning from these mistakes and not signing guys with potential to max deals. Gay is a holdover from the last CBA where contracts were signed for 7 yrs. I don't think they can sign any longer then 5 now???

Overpaid yes but overrated no. It's widely accepted that Gay is over paid, but he is a solid NBA player. You can really say it this way: "I opted in to $19m because I wasn't going to get paid that money on the open market. After this season, when I have choices, I will consider all of them."
That's the real truth. Had someone else (contender) picked up his contract he would have been gone.

In related news, Kirk Hinrich has settled on a short term agreement to rejoin the Bulls stating "I have really been a little disappointed in the talent they have put around me. I don't want to cause a stir or anything, but I think I will hold off on any long term commitment until I see what the organization does over the next twelve months."

I really hope this is sarcasm because if he said this then..... lol, he's one to talk! He got outplayed by Augustine all of last year and by Nate Robinson the year before that. He really hasnt improved much since he came into the league.

I didn't know that the green font doesn't come through on the article page, but I wouldn't think it would be needed lol. If you open in the chat page you will see it in green.. yes...sarcasm.

Well Rudy, it's a two way street; I'm sure that the Kings aren't falling all over themselves to offer you a rich contract extension until you show them next season that you deserve it.

Who is Gay to be making demands? The kings saved this scrub's career. Low efficient chucker until he came to SAC. He should be begging the Kings to keep him not the other way around.

Whose he kidding? He opted in because 19.3 million is what he'd get in 2-3 years

Rudy Gay is a talented player who doesnt translate to winning basketball. DeMarcus Cousins is even worse in that regard. the Kings got a bad culture brewing. add Ben McLemore and Derrick Williams to the list. lots of talent and no discipline or team first attitude. the Kings need to clean house. bc no matter how much talent they acquire these players will never be winners
