Great signing. Wiz have one of the deepest frontcourts in the league - Nene, Gortat, Humphries, Gooden, and now Blair.

What do the Mavs get in return? Just more cap space?

Negative, Mavs are capped out cause of a bold acquisition.

Mavs get nothing in return, except the good will of former players who will appreciate a franchise taking care of them. DeJuan Blair agreed to play for a bargain minimum contract in Dallas last season. So now they're returning him the favor.

This will be a good team out East assuming everyone stays healthy. PP is the veteran presence now to get everyone on board and replace Ariza, Wall/Beal/Gortat got a taste of playoff experience by beating the Bulls and losing to the Pacers. They will be mid-high position for playoff standings:

Top 3 Eastern Battle: Cavs, Chicago, Indiana
Mid 3 Battle: Wizards, Raptors, Miami, Hornets
Low 2 Battle: ATL, NYK, Brooklyn + Wildcard team (my guess Detroit with SVG taking over)

Please post the whole story. Bad reporting not posting the full deal... Looks like rights only and no contract?

- The Washington Wizards have acquired center DeJuan Blair in a sign-and-trade deal with the Dallas Mavericks.

The 6-foot-7 Blair averaged 6.4 points and 4.7 rebounds in 78 games in his only season with Dallas. He spent his first four seasons with San Antonio and has career averages of 7.5 points and 5.6 rebounds.

Dallas obtained the rights to Emir Preldzic in Tuesday's trade. The 6-9 Preldzic was selected by Phoenix with the 57th overall pick in the 2009 draft.

Something tells me this contract will be looked at as a serious bargain in the future. Why on Earth did he agree for the 3rd year to be a team option? Shoulda been a player option. I guess as a 2nd rounder he realizes he needs to at least get one payday under his belt before playing hardball, and he is only 25 so if he plays well he should have another payday coming before its all said and done...

WOW first Ed Davis and now Blair? ABSOLUTE STEAL. GREAT pick up by the Wizards.

I was starting to get worried when guys like Channing Frye were being paid ridic amounts.

This is why Mark Cuban is one of the best owners. He has no reason or gain to do this, other than to help Blair get a bit more money. Why would Cuban prevent someone who came to the Mavs for cheap and played hard? I like this move a lot.
