Eric Griffin Signs Three-Year Deal With Mavs

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Fri Jul 18, 2014 7:44 pm

Eric Griffin’s contract with the Dallas Mavericks is a three-year, non-guaranteed deal, league sources told RealGM.

The Mavericks announced the signing on Friday.

Griffin is averaging 9.3 points and 2.7 rebounds for the Mavericks’ summer league team this month, and he’s a high-level athlete and an increasingly skilled forward. At 6-foot-8, Griffin had arguably the best dunk of summer league: a one-handed slam over Shane Larkin.

Griffin had also gone to training camp with the Miami Heat last season and was a final roster cut. He then played in Puerto Rico and Venezuela.

Griffin, 24, averaged 15.7 points and 8.7 rebounds in his senior season at Campbell University.

Good for EG, loved his athleticism last year in training camp for Miami. I really hoped his jump shot has developed.

Nice to see the system working. I hate to see talent in Dleague material not getting onto **** end of a team. Every team should hire 2-3 guys who aren't NBA ready, but to let them travel, learn and make better money. Look at Noel, dude spent 1 season not even playing, but got to be apart of team, getting top quality assisstance, and he starts in Summer League, and they call him a rookie, even though he plays like a 2nd season player.

So even though Philly isn't that great, just being in their organization was enough to build him. Which leads me to believe that guys like Eric Griffin, who show any sign of promise, could become so much greater by being on a NBA team.

If they don't, half the Dleague should be Europe. What they need to do, is find some way to duplicate what NBA teams do, and put them in Dleague teams. Like build a new pride in being a Dleague player, and giving them more money by building a market for them.
