Cavaliers Sign Alex Kirk To Multi-Year Deal

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Mon Aug 11, 2014 8:01 pm

The Cleveland Cavaliers signed rookie seven-footer Alex Kirk to a partially guaranteed, multi-year contract, league sources told RealGM.

The Cavaliers announced the signing on Monday afternoon.

Kirk averaged 5.2 points, 3.4 rebounds and 52.4 percent field-goal shooting for the Cavaliers’ summer league team in July.

Kirk went undrafted out of New Mexico, averaging 13.2 points and 8.7 rebounds and forging a shot-blocking role with 2.7 blocks per game.

Psh, Alex Kirk is nothing but a championship chaser.

He should be his own man and go somewhere that doesn't have LeBron.

After doing some research it appears the Cavaliers are taking a light gamble on a guy who demonstrated impressive shot-blocking ability at the collegiate level. Kirk also happened to be in sub-optimal shape at the combine and thus may have stores of potential that can be tapped if he works hard to lose body fat (he was at 13% body fat at the combine) and works on his quickness. He showed some post up ability and some shooting chops at New Mexico so he could be good if he buys in and develops. He will likely spend a great deal of time in the D-league this year.

Great deal to roll the dice on. Kirk is a good player. A big man with legit 3-point shooting ability and is strong enough to hang with the PFs and Cs under the basket. Was out of the national public eye, but in the Mountain West Conference and in NM, Alex Kirk had built a good reputation. Good head on his shoulders too. Should be a great teammate.
