Rajon Rondo Denies Asking Celtics For Trade

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Mon Sep 1, 2014 2:57 pm

Rajon Rondo and his agent Bill Duffy have strongly denied a report that he wants to be traded by the Boston Celtics.

"Neither Bill nor Rajon know where this has come from, but it didn't come from them," Alyson Furch said in a text tonight. "They want this on the record. Neither has spoken to anyone about this."

Rondo is entering the final season of his contract with the Celtics.

Its ridiculous he had to be brought into something created by internet blogs. ESPN never even backed it up, and it was their footage

Wait -- So Jackie's report of the Celtics interested in the Kings starting pg Isaiah Thomas & the "big kid" Ben McLemore is false?

Yeah. This was always nothing. She had to be reminded that Thomas is in PHX & McLemore's a 2 guard. It was complete nonsense the whole time.

tim leiweke also denied reports of him wanting out... guess what, 2 days later, he confirmed that he'll be stepping down in a year... where there's smoke, there's fire...

"They want this on the record. Neither has spoken to anyone about this."

That's not really a denial is it? No claims about him wanting to stay, just that he didn't talk to the reporter about it.

Saying you aren't the one who leaked it to the press is not the same as denying the underlying issue. Does Rondo want out? Who knows? This "denial" certainly doesn't clarify that at all.

I think this report that rondo hasn't requested a trade is accurate. I think rondo will do a classy move like chris bosh next summer and recommit to his current team for 5 more seasons obviously at the max salary and remain a cornerstone as his team rebuilds. Unlike a lot of nba superstars; bosh and rondo have already won titles and love the fanbase and existing city they play in. Both players also have great relationships with their GMs and Owners. Pat Riley and Mickey Arison always stuck up for bosh when the media tore him apart. Same with Ainge and Wyc Grousebeck with regards to rondo. Carmelo on the other hand is just plain greedy in my opinion because he not only took the most money but met with other teams while also making open statements to the media that he strongly considered leaving and that he has a no-trade clause (which hints he could force a trade if knicks still struggle). If anyone was paying attention - Bosh was on a world tour both with his family and in support of nba international during free agency - he did not meet with any team or visit cities as a ufa. It was the rockets who aggressively pursued him and offered him a max deal while leaking the offer to the media to somewhat pressure him to leave Miami. Bosh since the heat beat okc in 2012 - has been on the record multiple times in television interviews and on radio that he loves Miami and would like to retire as a member of the heat and see his jersey raised to the rafters some day. You can be a Bosh hater and rip his game but you can't criticize his loyalty. His main reason for leaving the raptors was to win championships and he did just that. RESPECT.

The Celtics could have gotten a haul if they traded Rondo when they traded KG & Pierce.

Celtics already have 6 1st round picks in the next 2 drafts. They will rebuild quickly with or without Rondo.

No they wouldn't of - Kevin Garnett made it clear to celtics he'd only waive his no-trade clause if he and pierce were traded to the same team as a package. Only two teams were interested in giving up any assets for two aging veterans - the nets and clippers. NBA banned the clippers from having any trade discussions with the celtics for one entire season because they had gathered enough evidence to prove potential tampering/a back room dealing in which doc rivers(a coach) was being packaged as an asset in trades being discussed by the two teams. Than Danny Ainge played it smart and took both his guys off the trade market because he was willing to stand pat and try to make another playoff run despite rondo's acl recovery - this hardline is what lead to an idiot like billy king basically gift wrapping any remaining assets the nets had to acquire the two guys (he overpaid for this trade like he did previously for the joe johnson and deron williams deals). And rondo who had just tore his acl was basically untradeable at the time because his value just hit the floor. Clippers had cp3 and nets had deron williams - neither would need rondo.

im sure rondo hasn't went to celtics and said trade me im not reporting to team or something like that...but im also sure rondo wants to play for a team that has potential to win it all, hes in his peak 3-5 years as a pro, who knows what kind of player rondo will be at 33-34+ with no J and cant even hit FTs

and even die hard optimistic boston fans should see that this core isn't close to contending for playoffs next year or even in 2-3 years, let alone contending for it all

we all know hes thinking it and its on his mind, wanting to play for a contender...so its almost like saying it out loud even though he hasn't literally said it

I meant at the same time period -that offseason- not Rondo to the Nets packaged w/ KG & Pierce. The Nets didn't have anymore assets. :D
