NBA Could Play Morning Games To Accomodate Viewers In China

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Fri Sep 5, 2014 4:22 pm

The NBA will consider starting select weekend games in the morning Eastern Standard Time to accomodate foreign viewers in the future.

"Maybe when the audience gets big enough in China and you're reaching 100 million people in China, to say, 'So maybe once in a while a team will play at 10:00 on Saturday morning,' " Adam Silver said, mentioning the possibility of such games perhaps once every two months.

"We're not there yet.  But, you know, I am watching the market closely."

Could we accommodate every single TV viewer by now showing excessive commercials during every single: time-out, foul review, game break, player injury, team huddle, ref discussion, and any other form of game break.

Not sure if this is the cable companies or the NBA but can we...TAKE IT DOWN A NOTCHHHH SCOTTTIE?! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3pTub2TLsrc

There is no way the same ad can be effective if seen 20+ time during the exact same game...too much saturation. Keep it to quarter breaks and half time, plenty of time to get the $$ flowing in and advertisers to get the message across effectively.

You know some of these jackass players will club til 3am and then attempt to function on a basketball court at 9:30 am. Brilliant idea.

I support this idea. Basketball on a Saturday morning feels right to me for some reason. I honestly would be surprised if a lot of people on this side of the world complained about it. As long as this is where it stops, then I' m sure everyone would be fine with it.

Europe isn't anywhere near as population dense per kilometer, basketball fan wise, as China is. It would be a waste of time, especially since Europe has many more time zones that need accommodation. Plus it would also piss off a lot of existing fans in the north america/south america region.

Why don't they just setup a delayed broadcast on a TV channel. Or offer a NBATV where they just watch it after it happens.

This is a great idea that I fully support. I love the idea. If the NBA really wants to compete with the NFL, they need to be on TV more, on the major broadcasters (hopefully this get done with the upcoming TV deal), and they will need to have more games played shown on TV per day.

Also, it would totally weed out (no pun intended ;-)) the bad apples from the dudes putting in the time, getting proper sleep, staying focused on playing the game, etc. It will be more apparent when JR Smith shows up into the locker room at 9:45 AM, still dressed in his club outfit, wreaking of booze, and with some white under his nose, that he shouldn't play.

The only downside I can see is that early games might be tiring for players in the same way that back-to-backs are tiring or the 3 games in 4 nights. Or West Coast teams having to fly cross country on a Friday and then having to wakeup super early to play a 10AM game. It may have to be limited to teams in the EST and CST zones to make scheduling and travel easier.

A 10 AM game would be a 4 PM game here so that would be great for us as well.

I'd hope it would be games on the west coast vs the east coast, but that would mean it starts at like 1am Beijing time, but 1pm New York time, which isn't that bad for North American NBA fans.

A Knicks home game however would start at 7am on the west coast, which would just be weird to me.

I like this idea. Especially given how busy the NBA schedule can get throughout the season. A few day games wouldn't hurt anyone!

Europe has many more time zones? I think there's about 4, China has 4 time zones itself.

And while I don't think it's necessary, I don't see how accomodating to European viewers will piss anyone off since Europe is between the America's and Asia as far as timezones go.

Evening game in Asia = afternoon game in Europe = morning game in US.

NBA players getting up at 7am to head to the gym for shootaround and a 10am game? what a joke.
Occasionally baseball games are played early, and teams HATE IT.

Could be a good idea but the home team must be an Eastern Conference one first of all. Second is that the teams that have morning games will probably lose quite a bit of revenue

make it twenty and its still ok, 82 games in 160 days, are you kidding me?! its way too much...
Fact is that momentum in games is a real thing, while not tangible itself, you can tangibly see the effect it has when teams are on runs and how it can dramatically effect the outcome of games when you can generate any momentum.
