Dwight: Lakers' Experience Made Me Develop Thicker Skin

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Sat Oct 4, 2014 9:01 pm

Dwight Howard's experience with the Los Angeles Lakers was a rough one, but he doesn't consider it unproductive.

Howard began his tenure with the Lakers returning from back surgery.

"I probably should've waited longer," Howard told Yahoo Sports, "but I don't regret playing right away. I wish the information could've come across to the world about how hurt I really was, how serious the back injury was, but I never thought it really did.

"The good thing about it, I didn't develop any other major injuries. The torn labrum eventually healed itself. But coming back early from the back, I believed it helped me out in the long run. It made me really develop a thicker skin, going through all the things that I went through because of the injury.

"I was always taught never to show pain, never to show weakness, never to show fear. Always put a smile on your face. But I'm glad it did happen. It made me a better person. The world coming down on you, saying you weren't playing as hard as you could … "

Cmon Dwight I want you dominating MVP style!
You and the Beard to be like Pipen and Jordan!
Fact is that momentum in games is a real thing, while not tangible itself, you can tangibly see the effect it has when teams are on runs and how it can dramatically effect the outcome of games when you can generate any momentum.

Not everyone is cut out to be a Laker. The pressure can break the strongest of men. Glad he was able to grow from it, assuming he did.

Or thicker slime for the slimebag weasel (all in reference to his awkward moment of phoniness during an SVG interview). :noway:

I think Harden is perhaps better than Jordan at his age...fear the Beard...dont forget Harden's intangibles...hell attract that 3rd star to Houston soon....and he already recruited Dwight...stole it from LA.....fear The Beard...hes smart he knows well what hes doing....

Thicker skin? It made him run lol Kobe was all about working hard hard & putting in 100% plus effort in practice & games, Dwight wanted none of that... If he did well he'd be a 80% plus free throw shooter and his mid range would be bettter

Being in LA shouldn't have had anything to do with him getting "thicker skin", that was something he needed to do on his own. People keep saying the "Laker experience"....it wasn't like the Lakers put any pressure on him to play, he made that decision on his own. The Lakers never pressured him into doing anything, so these bogus writers need to stop using his time here as if it made him a better man.

I could see if the Lakers or fans prodded and poked him to a sense that he developed thicker skin, but it was the exact opposite.

Maybe that's why he couldn't see the stoplights?

If you mean on defense, then... NO!
But if you mean on offense, then... still NO!
If you mean in hairline... OK, I'll give the hairline to Hardin.

Notice how Howard's numbers in LA:

17.1ppg 12.4rpg 2.4bpg 1.1spg .578fg
(76 games)

almost the same as his career averages:

18.3ppg 12.9rpg 2.2bpg 1.0spg .579fg

so he did an incredible job for LA, whether he was injured or not!

The funny thing is, Jordan was more known for intangibles than stats.
And yet, Jordan's stats were monstrous at Harden's age:

Jordan age 24: 35.0ppg 5.9apg 5.5rpg 3.2spg 1.6bpg .535fg 3.1tpg
Harden age 24: 25.4ppg 6.1apg 4.7rpg 1.6spg 0.4bpg .456fg 3.6tpg

80% plus FT from "hard work"?

Lol. Scottie Pippen averaged 70% for his career. Maybe Scottie should have worked harder...I'm sure MJ wouldn't have pushed him every single practice

Wow I just realized, Howard averaged more rebounds, blocks and steals in LA (12.4rpg 2.4bpg 1.1spg) than he does in Houston (12.2rpg 1.8bpg 0.8spg)! And his scoring is only 1.2ppg better in Houston.

Stomped the whole argument about Harden's progression being better than Jordan's...
