Jimmy Butler Doesn't Hold Resentment From Lack Of Contract Extension

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Mon Nov 24, 2014 6:20 am

Jimmy Butler and the Chicago Bulls were not able to agree to a contract extension before the Oct. 31 deadline, and this season, the swingman has averaged 20.4 points, 6.2 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.5 steals a game.

Butler said he does not hold resentment with the Bulls for the lack of a new deal.

"Nah, nah," Butler said. "I love the city of Chicago. I think everybody knows that. I just feel like I've just got to help win games, man. I want a championship. The money has never been an issue because I'm from Tomball. The money I make now is more than nothing.

"I just wanted to prove to my teammates, to my coaches, to the city, that I'm here to stay."

Will 40M for 4 yrs be a fair price for him?

If he maintains his current level of play for most of the season and into the playoffs - he likely will get a max offer sheet from some team with cap space next summer like gordon hayward did with the charlotte hornets recently. So expect a deal around 4 years 60M coming his way.

Jimmy Butler is surprisingly one of the only upcoming guards in the league who might deserve a large raise. I'd go as far as saying he is better than Paul George, providing he plays like this all season. He gets far less looks, takes less shots, is far more efficient, is considered a 3rd string guy on the team, and still puts up 20ppg. He deserves more attention than he is getting. If he leaves and continues putting up these numbers, he could become a very solid star caliber player. I usually hate jumping the gun when players have breakout seasons (Paul George), but what I've seen from butler has been actually quite impressive. All the best to him in the offseason.

No. He already turned down that offer. Alec Burks makes more than that. Jimmy will probably make $12-14 million a year at this pace.

grantland's zack lowe and some unnamed nba executive apparently have bet on jimmy butler's contract...if it will be over or under $10 million. the loser pays dinner.
