Celtics Were Interested In Julius Randle From Lakers For Rondo

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Mon Dec 22, 2014 9:08 pm

The Boston Celtics had interest in acquiring Julius Randle from the Los Angeles in their trade discussions centered on Rajon Rondo. Randle is out for the season with a broken leg.

The Lakers have long sought to acquire Rondo from the Celtics.

Rondo was eventually traded to the Dallas Mavericks.

Had they made the trade, my feeling is that the Lakers would have regretted that move in the long run.

Why didn't it happen? Lakers weren't willing to part ways with Randle or Celtics gave up after the season ending injury?

Lakers would never make that trade for a rental because Rondo wouldn't be re-signing with LA-- based on their dearth of talent and Kobe in his twilight, which would effectively leave Rajon to inherit a team worse than the current Celtics roster.

LA meanwhile has a real gem in Randle and they know it. He's their superstar in waiting and when you look at their roster, and Kobe one more and done, it makes sense to hold onto those young studs knowing the rebuild is going to be a couple of harsh winters very, very soon.

Rondo is a perfect fit for Dallas - veterans, no-nonsense, and looking for PG leadership. Is there a better starting 5 on paper?

PS Dirk is now the lowest paid player in the starting 5

Lakers did not want to give up Randle, his season has been over since the first week of the season..
