76ers Suspend Andrei Kirilenko Without Pay

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Fri Jan 9, 2015 3:58 pm

The Philadelphia 76ers have suspended Andrei Kirilenko for failing to report to the team.

Kirilenko's suspension is without pay.

The NBA was notified of Kirilenko's suspension earlier this week.

Kirilenko was traded to the 76ers by the Brooklyn Nets in December.

Bob Ford of the Philadelphia Inquirer has reported that Sam Hinkie reneged on a deal to release Kirilenko.

I can see how agents would see this as a shady move by the Sixers by not just waiving him as promised. Could have ramifications for future free agents

As long as the players show up to work there shouldn't be a problem.

So many salty players in professional sports, STFU, report to the team and get paid your millions of dollars for doing nothing ffs

76ers do not care about their image. They are not looking to make any decent signings anytime soon. I support them for the decision. As a Raps fan I wish they did this more. If the player thinks they are too good for your team, fine, they can sit at home with no pay. But, I am sure this particular issue will be resolved very soon.

It's a good thing for Andrei that he has written proof that they agreed to release him after they traded for him otherwise he'd be justifably suspended without pay! Right Andrei? Just dig up that contract where Sam Hinkie laid out signed written terms that he promised he would release you.

I don't think Kirilenko cares about basketball at the moment. He probably had his under the table cash forwarded to his Russian account prior to signing with the Nyets.

I don't believe for a second Hinkie promised Kirilenko he would release him. I, however, wouldn't be surprised if Billy King had led Kirilenko to believe Philly would waive him to get him to agree to the trade. Not that Billy was trying to be shady about it, just that he made an assumption based on what Hinkie had done with other players and opened his mouth where he shouldn't have.

This is actually really refreshing to see. It shouldn't be taboo to hold a player accountable in this kind of situation.

His wife is pregnant and she's not young and got some serious health issues apparently. Can't really blame the man.

Consider Alonzo Mourning refuse to report to Raptors and forced his way back to Miami, I think raptor fan know it all too well.

Sure Players want to choice where they live and play, however it is part of business of NBA and they are trade because they are not good enough for their team to keep.

Some argue that players have right to choose whom they work for, however the problem players not only work for individual team but also the whole NBA as a company. In some way teams trade players is like international corporation move human resource in it's structure.

Philly is a 2 hour drive from Brooklyn and he would be on the road half the time no matter where he plays. If he was traded to the GSW I'm guessing he'd report.

No he wouldn't. He doesn't care about basketball or paycheck at this point.

ugly move from 76ers.
they should waive him.

their reputation is getting worser and worser. the way they're tanking, getting injured prospects, these kind cheap moves...
i doubt any FA would sign with 76ers without overpayment..

So then he shouldn't mind not getting paid for not playing.

You clearly have info I don't. Did he tell you this in person, by phone or via text?

If what you say is true he could save himself and the 76ers some hassle by retiring. No suspensions or bad press, just... "I'm done!"
