Details Of Celtics, Grizzlies, Pelicans, Clippers Deal Involving Jeff Green

The Boston Celtics, Memphis Grizzlies, New Orleans Pelicans and Los Angeles Clippers are nearing completion on a four-team trade involving Jeff Green.

Green will be dealt to the Grizzlies from the Celtics, along with Russ Smith from the Pelicans.

The Celtics will receive TayShaun Prince, Austin Rivers and a first round pick from the Grizzlies. Rivers will likely be traded to the Clippers in a techinically separate deal.

The Pelicans will acquire Quincy Pondexter and a second rounder from the Grizzlies.

Other than Austin Rivers being Doc's son, not sure why the clips would want him when their position of need is clearly the SF position.

nah, he's just trying to coach his boy before he's out of the league. the interesting thing is gonna be what he does when its obvious that Austin's the odd man out. That Cunningham move paved the way for this tho. Still should've made a move for a forward tho

The Celtics are dumb. Unless they trade all these draft picks for proven veterans over this summer or next, then this team is going to be bad for a very long time. You can't win championships by collecting draft picks on paper.

My first question is who exactly are the Celtics trying to rebuild around? Marcus Smart is really looking like a right fit (for now) and collecting draft picks for what? All these draft picks are probably going to be low draft picks anyways so why even bother keeping them.

Crawford, Hawes, Rivers, BBD, Turkey Glue...

What kind of a bench is that? Defense whaat?

They're drawing dead to win the west with this roster or even a round.

I think the important thing about this trade is that the Grizzlies have added athleticism and explosiveness to an otherwise non athletic roster. Although it has been receiving less fanfare than getting Green the acquisition of Russ Smith is and will be an important one. Smith is super quick and can be a one man fast break at times while also being able to penetrate at will. Again, while he has not made an impact with New Orleans that probably has more to do with the fact that the Pelicans have a surplus of athletic guards and offered him little playing time. With Green, Carter, Allen and Lee filling the wings and Conley and Smith taking turns pushing on the break Memphis should benefit from more open court opportunities than ever before. That may be enough of a spark to a grind it out mindset to take them above their previous ceiling.
