Amar'e Stoudemire plans to use the All-Star break to decide whether he will request the New York Knicks for a contract buyout.

"It's not an easy decision to make," Stoudemire said. "Over time, we will see how things pan out. You give yourself a break during the All-Star break. You think about it with your family. …That will give me a good solid week on how to weigh out the rest of the season.

"All possibilities at this point are still open. The door is still open for that. But at the same time, I am with the Knicks now. I got to stay optimistic about things and what we are doing here. I can't really focus on the future because it's not here."

Stoudemire making $23.4 million this season and it is virtually impossible for the Knicks to trade him before the Feb. 19 deadline.

The Los Angeles Clippers, Dallas Mavericks and Portland Trail Blazers could have interest in Stoudemire if he becomes a free agent.

Regardless of what injuries have done to his career, Amar'e has always been a hardworker.
It's no joke to come back from the injuries he has had and produce at a level which he produced at. After his worst injury, he came back to All-Star level which I commend him for. He's faced a lot of adversity through life and he deserves to at least have a chance to compete again. He is not getting that in NY.

The man has made his money. Leaving $1M on the table helps the Knicks, and it helps Amar'e to go compete elsewhere.
There is no downside to it.

Dallas makes perfect sense, too. They NEED a big that can play F/C and give them offense off the bench, it's something they've been lacking since moving Wright. It'd be a bonus that he would sign at the vet minimum (pro rated) because they won't find anyone nearly as good via trade with what assets they have left.

Depends what type of contract he is going to get in off-season. If he can get a multi year contract this off-season (ie. 3 years) and get picked up by a true contender now, I think he'd be willing to get bought out if Knicks want to get under LT.

Ship him off!!!...I'd say "give him his walking papers" but we all know them knees BEEN shot.

No Amare you sit on the bench an collect the rest of that cash. You can play for a contender next year.

He might just be tired of playing for a losing cause. Why no start his ring chasing early? He's already made more money than he ever should have.

All the Amare bashers make me laugh. Yeah, he's got two bad knees... and he's still found a way to be the most efficient player on the Knicks. Amare is shooting 55% while averaging 18 pts. and 10 boards per 36 minutes. I know he has a big contract but Knicks fans have much bigger things to worry about.

The Knicks are the epitome of dysfunction and I can think of a whole list of reasons he might want to leave but only one for him to stay... NY pizza!

thats cute and all but the man goes out for a "rest day" and ends up missing three weeks at a time, he does not give the knicks that production consistently, its on management for giving him that contract to begin with but its time to cut ties with him

The problem is he doesn't play 36 minutes per game though. Do you know how much of a burden it is to be paying a guy on a hundred million dollar contract and he is hardly giving you any minutes? Who are you going to pay to fill that production for the rest of the time? Duh

I would want every penny of that contract. No way I let the Knicks off the hook on that deal.

I agree with you 100%... But hating on Amare for anything you just said is ignorant.

Amare was offered a huge contract with no insurance and he took it. That was a solid business decision. Can't be mad at him for that.
His knees are messed up but he continues to work to evolve his game. He puts up solid numbers in limited minutes and in some ways he has become more efficient. Can't be mad at him for that either. And to be fair, he wants more minutes.
The Knicks are a mess with a rookie GM, rookie coach and a star SF that seems to think that loosing reflects poorly on those around him but not on him personally. You can't be mad at Amare for any of these things but people are and it's funny to me!

So he's hurt and your mad about it... that's just funny to me. Here are two reasons the Knicks are bringing him back slow:

1) He improves their chances of winning and at this point winning doesn't help them.
2) They are trying to learn and implement a difficult offense that he will likely not be a part of next year.

He's considering a buyout because he wants to play.
