The Sacramento Kings and George Karl have agreed upon a four-year contract worth nearly $15 million to become head coach.

The $14.5 million deal will include a $1.5 million buyout provision on the $5 million owed Karl in the final year of the contract, a source told Yahoo Sports.

Karl will earn $1.25 million for the rest of the 2014-15 season, which will begin with his Kings debut after the All-Star break on Feb. 20.

The Kings fired Michael Malone in December and have parted ways with Tyrone Corbin following their recent struggles.

Yeah, he should... As a head coach he has won 1131 games with a .599 winning percentage. He's underpaid.

Yeah, Karl deserves to be coaching. This is not some re-tread trying to keep cashing checks. Denver was foolish to let him go after winning CotY and it's shown with the Nuggets how important he was.

Like I've said before, great regular season coach. Playoffs? Not so much.

So the Kings don't need to worry about that. Ever.

They also let go EotY same season, good for Raptors though.

So is Corbin fired or being put back to lead assistant coach?

I have a lot of respect for Coach Karl, he has endured a lot of personal hardship in his home and family life. He has battled cancer, seen it impact those around him, and he has found a way to remain positive, up beat, professional, and dedicated to his career at the same time.

He shows loyalty to his players, the team's who employ him, his staff, but he never shows weakness. He is not about to bow down to star players or their demands even though so often in the NBA the players get their way.

I am happy for Coach, and I wish him nothing but success... unless he is playing the Knicks.

Shouldn't have fired Malone in the first place - it looked like he was trying to implement the right system and had the players on board.

This is what happens when owners think they're the GM and smarter than the GM they hired to do such a job. Look at the potential fiasco in Memphis (luckily for them, the team is really good and have bought into Joerger's system). Maybe it'll work out for Sacto too. It's not like Karl's some scrub. A few players coughCousinscough might not like having discipline. They'll have to get over that.
