Ron Adams Pushed For Bulls To Select Draymond Over Marquis Teague In 2012

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Tue Jun 9, 2015 4:26 pm

Ron Adams pushed for the Chicago Bulls to draft Draymond Green in the 2012 NBA Draft when he was Tom Thibodeau's lead assistant.

The Bulls instead picked Marquis Teague with the 29th overall pick, leaving him to go to the Golden State Warriors at 35.

“As a coaching staff, we were very disappointed we didn’t get him,” Adams says. “He is definitely a Chicago kind of guy. This is no reflection on Kevin Love, but every team wants a Draymond Green. He has internalized the parts of the game that are the winning parts: the hustle, the grit, the defense, making the right play at the right time. I love that guy. I’m glad he’s on our team.”

Hindsight is always 20/20, think about the possibilities the Pistons front office had when drafting Milicic with the 2nd overall pick (ahead of Carmelo, Bosh, Wade) and the Trailblazers drafting Oden with the #1 pick (ahead of Durant, Horford, Conley Jr. Noah).

Millicic was an obvious bust that the media hyped up. No one saw him play all people knew was what the media parroted. Carmelo on the other hand had just accomplished history right before our eyes and wasn't just a workout warrior

Is RealGM staff so cool with Draymond Green that they are on a first name basis.

And people wondered why he got fired.
Serves him well for thinking too much when he's there to listen and obey.

Yeah, it's the media that's doing the smearing.
It's the media that puts out press releases throwing former employees under the bus.
It was the media that wanted to fight a previous coach.
It was the media that fired another coach on Christmas.
It was the media that told Phil Jackson he'd be out next summer even if the team would go 82-0.
It was the media that told Michael Jordan that he wasn't worth 30 mil per season.

Maaaan this media sounds pretty crappy. No wonder a classy front office like the Bulls have can't get along with this media.

Except, unlike in the similar article where Saunders talks about wanting Klay but ultimately taking Vesely, Ron Adams pushed for Draymond, but was overruled by the FO.

That's not hindsight. That's "I was right. I TOLD YOU SO !!!"

How is this a smear in any way?
aol4532 on bill russell
I think if you put McGee back then, he would get those blocks just as easily as Russell did. Russell's athleticism was well ahead of the players of his time, and that's about it.

well let's see, 29 other teams passed on Draymond Green. Yet the Bulls are supposedly A-holes for drafting Teague over him. Let's ignore the fact that the Bulls FO are historically very good drafters and developers of talent, the Teague pick aside.

Good for Ron Adams. But this article was clearly put out with the intention of making GarPax look bad...again.

Bulls drafted for need back than due to Rose's injury.

Ron Adams acts like Thibs will play Rookie as well.

Ron Adams didn't work for 29 other teams though. The basis of the article are his quotes.

every front office has passed on a player they thought about or where told to draft that ended up being better than the guy they ultimately chose....or else you'd see more situations like the thunder when they had to let harden go because they had drafted too many talented players and didn't have enough cap space to keep them all...sometimes you pick up gold like jimmy buckets late in the draft and sometimes you miss it like green....Dwelling on paths not taken is as stupid in sports as it is in life....

As a Rockets fan, the notion that the national media is biased against the Bulls is utterly ridiculous.
Harden is still a work-in-progress. He can score, but he can't help his teammate that much - Yao Ming
