Jordan Mickey Signs Four-Year, $5M Deal With Celtics

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Mon Jul 20, 2015 4:45 pm

The Boston Celtics have signed the 33rd overall pick in the 2015 NBA draft, Jordan Mickey, to a four-year, $5 million contract, league sources told RealGM.

Mickey’s deal contains two years guaranteed, sources said. The Celtics announced the signing on Monday.

During the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas and Utah, Mickey averaged 12.3 points, 7.9 rebounds and 2.4 blocks in eight games — separating himself as one of Boston’s best young assets. The 6-foot-8 forward also shot 52.7 percent from the field while playing 28.1 minutes a game.

With the Celtcs, Mickey will earn the contract of a first-round selection. It marks the most lucrative deal for a second round pick in league history.

Mickey declared for the NBA draft after his sophomore season at LSU, where he averaged 15.4 points and 9.9 rebounds per game.

$5M is a lot for a 2nd rounder...

Always had a lot of respect for Ainge but the past two years he's shown he is over the hill

Celtics continue on their treadmill of middling talent...

Well he's made the best of whatever scenario that was thrown at him. We won't be on the treadmill for long- the Brooklyn picks are bound to be in the lottery, and our players/assets are young and only getting better.

A lot of youth but all rotational talent at best

There's hope with the Brooklyn picKS but with the way the East is they might still not be at the bottom and so they won't end up giving high end picks that would result in a star prospect which the Celtics are devoid of

Also losing Deron Williams is addition by subtraction. A team with Joe Johnson, Thaddeus Young and Brook Lopez could make the playoffs in the terrible east = another mediocre prospect for Boston

He probably had a great offer to play overseas but Ainge wants to develop and keep him so they probably had to exceed the offer he was getting from Euro or Chinese clubs.
