Joe Alexander Rejects Celtics' Camp Offer, Signs With Sassari

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Mon Aug 3, 2015 10:37 am

Joe Alexander turned down a camp deal with the Boston Celtics and has signed with Sassari of the Italian league.

Alexander played for Maccabi Tel Aviv last season.

Alexander most recently played in the United States in the D-League with the Santa Cruz Warriors.

I mean this isn't that surprising. There isn't a lot of playing time available to begin with and a lot of guys on the roster who should be playing will not see the court regularly. This is especially true for their big men.

Worst 8th overall pick of all time? or was Rafael Araújo worse?
Harden is still a work-in-progress. He can score, but he can't help his teammate that much - Yao Ming

He was one of the only busts in the class of 2008.

Translation "pay me" or no thanks. i dont think Alexander is that stupid to turn down 6 or 7 figure salary with free meals/accomodations/many other perks to live in and play in Italy as to sign a non-guaranteed deal for a few measly thousands for a camp invite. If the Celtics want to see him in action send scouts to Italy and evaluate him from there or else match Sassaris offer so to give him the chance to change his mind. Ainge must really have no clue or else he thinks Joe Alexander and his agents are that stupid.

He had a great season playing in Russia, his shot has improved the training camp invite was plain insulting to Joe Alexander.

He didn't live up to expectations, but I think he has NBA talent and has improved. I think he will make it back to the NBA in the near future

Not defending Alexander by any means, but Beasley was pretty awful for a #2 pick. Especially as the 2nd round that year had such players as Pekovic, DJ, Dragic, Asik and Chalmers. Obviously hindsight is 20-20, as no one was going to take a lottery pick shot at DJ back then, but still...

Plus the Bucks 2nd rounder was Mbah a Moute, who started 51 games in his rookie season for the Bucks and is still in the league!
