John Lucas III has been working out with the Miami Heat in preparation for the team's camp.

The Heat are searching for backcourt depth, making Lucas another fit.

Lucas finished last season with the Detroit Pistons after playing in China.

As a Jazz player he was Tank Commander. Here he won't be gunning away if he makes it.

The Heat traded away two back-ups in Napier and Coles (who started from lack of high talent) and acquired Goran Dragic whos a stud. Now they want to trade Chalmers who's on the decline and add Lucas3, assurantly as a 3rd PG behind Tyler Johnson. Now where in all that does it give you a reason to "SMH"?

Three 3 PGs I am referring to are Zoran Dragic, Napier and Cole. Why trade these guys to make more room at PG only to go out and then sign another vet PG? Why not just keep one of the guys you traded away? Especially since all 3 are younger and better.

I was kind of hoping the Pistons would keep him as a veteran presence to remind the young guys how hard it really is to stick in the league even if you bust your butt every night like JLIII.

Well, Zoran is more of a 2 so he doesnt count. He was traded basically for added cap room but wasnt going to get much play time anyways. Cole was traded last season in the process to acquire Goran. That leaves Napier who was traded to open up some cap room while Riley attempted to pursue Aldridge. Lucas3 will be a low cost option at the point while they still explore trade scenarios for Chalmers & possibly Andersen that could yield a better fitting PG or general depth.

Still feels odd to have such a revolving circle of PG'S, going back and forth from having too much to too little to too much again

Eh, i guess thats relative. You cant argue theyre better off now with Dragic starting and back-up PG-by-committee filled by Tyler Johnson, possibly Lucas3 and Chalmers until they find a trade for him. Thats not to mention that Wade can distribute as well.

JLIII is an inconsequential player. If he even makes the team, which isn't a guarantee, he won't be seeing a ton of PT anyway. It's not like he's gonna be an expensive add. This is probably a camp contract that could turn into a 10-day or 2 while they work through what they've got and see what happens going into the pre-season.
