NBRA Believes Mike Budenholzer Should Have Been Suspended

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Mon Nov 23, 2015 10:15 pm

Mike Budenholzer has received a $25,000 fine for making contact with referee Ben Taylor.

But the National Basketball Referees Association believes Budenholzer should have received a suspension.

The incident occurred on Saturday.

"Referees operate in environment in which an influential NBA team owner has repeatedly mocked the efficacy of fines as means to change bad behavior. Coaches should compete by creating better teams, not by physically intimidating officials."

Didn't see the play, was it an aggressive move, or was he just gesturing, and just happened to nudge the ref?

I havn't seen the play either but it is likely the fault of the hawks assistant coaches who are suppose to restrain the head coach when confrontation arises in order to prevent technical fouls and ejections . Three of the leagues top coaches - Popovich, Carlisle and Rivers always get into feuds with the refs during intense games especially in the playoffs because they can't hold their emotions when they clearly realize bad calls are being made against them - but it's their assistants that restrain them. I've seen games where it looks like Pop is going to sock a referee for jawing back at him after handing out a tech and it's his assistants who restrain him.

It was an accidental contact, does not contact aggressive.

You can find the replay here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H5Fzrl9GQpE

He just walked up and brushed against the ref. Was yelling the whole time too - don't think he realized how close he was until it happened. I don't think he meant to make contact at all from the looks of it. Plus very minimal contact - nudge at best, but contact nonetheless.

totally support the ejection, but that should be sufficient punishment.
