Adam Silver Appreciates Blazers 'Not Bottoming-Out' With Rebuild

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Wed Dec 2, 2015 9:03 pm

Adam Silver attended the Portland Trail Blazers' game on Tuesday against the Dallas Mavericks.

Neil Olshey and the Blazers are rebuilding after losing LaMarcus Aldridge to the San Antonio Spurs in the offseason.

Silver was asked if he was surprised by all of the changes the Blazers made.

"I don't know if I was surprised," said Silver. "Paul Allen's been in this league a while now. He knows you have to go through a rebuilding process. At the same time, I appreciate that they're rebuilding in a way where they're not bottoming-out in any way. Fans still want to see competitive teams on the floor, but it is necessary to rebuild at certain times to sort of assess where you are. I think they're doing a good job."

If this is meant as a shot at the Sixers--the Sixers went like 10-30 before they sold off their remaining young talent (E Turner, Hawes). They just didn't have a young core of Lillard, Batum, McCollum, etc to rebuild around. That's the whole reason the rebuild was so drastic to begin with.

Sounds like he's aiming at the Sixers, but that's not fair considering the Sixers have no all-star to build around at the moment. Right now, Philly is trying to find their next all-star and that takes a few years.

How many guys on team who were considered #1 in mock drafts: Like 3?

Noel-Was #1 til injury
Embidd-Was #1 til injury
Okafur-Was a #1 overall player

You give any team in the league 2 Top 3 players like Noel and Okafur, I doubt their only win would be just Lakers.

T-Wovles 31, Jazz 25, Magic 23, Bucks 15, and Celtic 25 wins, all supposedly tanked in 2013-2014 with Philly's 19 wins. Yet in 2015-2016:

Jazz, T-Wovles, Magic, and Boston all look playoff bound with .500 type play. Philly won 1 game to hapless Kobe's Lakers.

Sixers traded away an all-star point guard for Nerlens Noel.

They traded away their best player for a guy that was going to be out for the year. Seems like a perfectly reasonable criticism.

Please stick to the Jazz. If Embiid is hurt and Saric hasn't come over yet and you sold high on MCW for a hopeful top 5 pick this year... that team is supposed to compete for the playoffs? If the Sixers had gotten Wiggins and Towns they wouldn't be 1-18 either. There is always luck involved in a rebuild. Your Jazz got lucky a 27 pick turned into an elite rim protector. Finally, the Magic and the Wolves won't be making the playoffs.

Note to Adam Silver:

Want the Sixers to stop tanking? Give them the number 1 pick and the Lakers pick in the 2016 draft. Guarantee they won't tank next year. That is all.

Silver not taking shots at 76ers, he mentions 76ers during full inteview

Nah he was mentioning the 76ers here in interview http://i.imgur.com/KkyjIU9.png

He's referring to Jrue Holiday, not MCW.

Yeah I read your blurb, it was definitely aimed at Philadelphia. Listen, they deserve some crap for eschewing the value of vet mentors, but the bad luck on the ping pong balls is what it is. If Embiid gets hurt a week later, Andrew Wiggins is a Sixer. So my memo to the commish stands.

Sorry, we couldn't trade him for Wiggins like the Wolves did with Love. He was the best we could get at the time.

Where did you get this? Been googling looking for his interview and just found one where he sits in with the Portland announcers. Said nothing in that interview about the Warriors or the Sixers.

The Sixers will continue to tank for the next 20 years, constantly in search of that "superstar" that never develops because of poor management, only to finally construct a competitive team that loses in the 2nd round.

This is the fate of a team that goes the Sixers route instead of the Celtics route.

Blazers would still be a playoff team in the east
