Rockets Tell Ty Lawson He's Not Being Shopped In Trades

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Thu Dec 3, 2015 5:13 pm

Ty Lawson has been assured by the Houston Rockets that they're not shopping him in trade scenarios.

"They're pretty honest here and they would come up to me and tell me that," Lawson said. "When that story came out, they came up to me and told me like there is no truth to it. I'm just playing here every day, go day by day, working hard and if things happen, things happen."

Lawson has played well over the past two games as he's played with the second unit.

"It happens every day, even if you're playing well, teams are shopping you," Lawson said. "You just can't feed into it. Just keep being you."

I can't believe there is no market for an under-sized point guard who is not playing well for the team that needed a point guard bad and just traded for him this season.

Well the Rockets are likely to get $.60 on the dollar right now for him. Im sure theyre looking for him to prop up his value and then re-evaluate his trade value in 2 months.

Original story I read said they weren't actively shopping him.

So basically, Morey's playing it super coy and in roundabout ways shopping him.

Coming from Morey, this means nothing.

Lawson is fine. He started the season well and was playing the PG position well. There was a clear change in the teams direction by the third game and Harden was playing the PG much more. You can see Harden's low assist stats in the first 2 games take a dramatic climb in game 3. That wasn't coincidence. It was really plain to see. Lawson needed to keep more of his PG role and has taken it back to a degree. I would not shop him either. It takes time to build chemistry. Bringing in a valuable PG wouldn't have enough time to create chemistry before the playoffs, no matter who you brought in.

Pretty sure there is a market for him amongst the New York teams. Both the knicks and nets need an upgrade at pg for the long term (Lawson has bird rights as well as another year left on his deal after this season) but neither can afford to give up a first round pick in a package to get him which is likely Morey's asking price since that is what rockets initially gave up to acquire him.

Another team to watch is the Cavs if the organization is not confident Kyrie can stay healthy for the rest of the season especially the playoffs - they may be willing to give up a first round pick to acquire him as an insurance policy. The cavs will have to do some maneuvering prior to the acquisition in order for the trade to be possible like acquiring a player with the Brendan Haywood 10.5M trade exception and flipping him in a package for Lawson who makes 12.4M. Cavs may also be willing to part with Mozgov who isn't playing that well and will also be a ufa at season's end. And if Kyrie is healthy - imagine a Cavs Bench with Lawson, Mo Williams, JR Smith and Tristan Thompson.

Neither NY teams want him. Better off bringing up a D league player.

Of course, what else are they going to tell him. It's like any time a player is traded, it was the first offer that landed on their desk. Please, we know Houston is desperate to get rid of Lawson.

Nets tried to trade for him multiple times after his value tanked from the multiple DUIs. Denver refused their offers because they couldn't include a first round draft pick like the rockets. Nets owe so many picks to Boston from the awful KG-Pierce trade.
