Kurt Rambis Interested In Playing Kristaps Porzingis At Small Forward

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Fri Mar 18, 2016 4:40 pm

Kurt Rambis has said that due to the athleticism and versatility of Kristaps Porzingis, he could “eventually see him at the 3-spot some,” referring to the small-forward position.

Rambis previously wanted Porzingis to sprint down the court after opponents' misses for post-up opportunities.

Rambis, who has said Porzingis is “going to be phenomenal,” has also been critical of the rookie’s shot selection, saying “there are shots out there that he takes that I flat-out don’t like.” Porzingis’ 3-point attempts are down since Rambis comment.

Teams typically look to use players with the skill set of Porzingis at center due to how much space it requires defenses to cover.

Porzingis has enough quickness to get transition dunks and could potentially be a long-range threat as a trailer in transition.

I know right. It surprises me how much confidence Phil Jackson has in Rambis. Unless Rambis is an idiot savant or something.

This is so true. He is too slow at the four in a fastened game already. Play him at center in a
4-out-system with a slashing point guard.

Agreed...idiotic move. Guarding quicker, smaller players killed Ralph Sampson's career. Move Porzingis to center and keep him there.

Might as well try him out as an SG then. Ray Allen 2.0 running off screens and pulling up for the 3. No one would ever block that.

90% of the leagues coaches would be trying to convert KP into a small ball Center, which he'd be perfect for in the modern NBA. Meanwhile Rambis still thinks it's 1984 and is trying to put as much size on the floor as possible. Just move Melo to SG already...

Are you suggesting that Sampson would have avoided all those knee injuries playing Center?

I read an article during that time that said Sampson attributed a lot of his knee trouble to playing power forward and having to guard quicker players on the perimeter (when Olajuwon was better suited for the role but played center). Whether that caused the knee trouble I can't say for sure, but I wouldn't be surprised..

Your position is defined by where you play on defense. Nobody wants to see Porzy guarding the elite SFs in this league.

thank you. ive tried explaining this to my fellow knicks fans who choose to put the blinders on. porzingis is very athletic - for someone 7'3. but the athletic 6'6-6'9 SFs of the league will have a field day with him. hell, I watched **** Scola burn him off the dribble

Why not just give Melo his check and tell him to mail in the rest of the year? This is plain stupid. Way to leverage your assets.

all jokes aside, he probably could be great at that from his own frontcourt position. bigs wouldn't want to chase him, and he'd be lethal off that screen. not talking about reggie miller setups, but something along the baseline or up to that pinch post area. then if it doesn't work, triangle away if you must.

he has the handle and creativity to make some things happen if the open jumper isn't there. i'd actually like to see a little of that with him as a knick fan.
RIP magnumt

welcome home, thibs.

Knicks should be running KP at C and Melo at the 4 and figuring out the rest, but that would be too much like right.
