Thon Maker Will Attempt To Declare For NBA Draft

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Mon Apr 4, 2016 2:39 am

Thon Maker will attempt to declare for the 2016 NBA Draft.

Maker believes he has a strong case to be considered draft eligible. Maker reportedly graduated from high school in Canada in June of 2015 and is technically in his fifth year of high school.

Maker has elected to withdraw from participating in the Nike Hoop Summit event this upcoming week in Portland in order to focus on his workouts and preparation for the draft.

shouldn't he have asked the nba beforehand whether returning for a "bonus" year of high school would qualify him for the draft? and what kind of high school allows a graduate to return for another year?

In Canada, graduates are allowed to return for an extra year; usually to upgrade or to play an extra year. Thon was coming from attending high school in the states, so they put him back a year I'm assuming.

This is a very common practice in Ontario. It stems back to the days when Ontario high schools actually had a 5th year. That 5th year then became optional ... then was abandoned altogether - but the option was still there for students to use it to upgrade marks, take additional courses, or improve athletic standing.

I'm happy for him.

Thon's family are a successful refugee story after leaving war torn Uganda and settling in Australia. He was basically nurtured by a talent scout who helped him get his long term goals in place and started guiding him towards them. His skillset is something worth checking out.

These tall-ass fellows who like to put the ball on the floor and create are becoming a real 'thing' aren't they?

He should be allowed to enter the draft.

The rule is that there is a minimum, 1 year buffer, between his graduation class and when he enters the draft.

He graduated in 2015.
