Dirk Nowitzki Expects To Re-Sign With Mavs On Multi-Year Deal

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Wed Jun 8, 2016 3:56 pm

Dirk Nowitzki expects to opt out of his contract with the Dallas Mavericks and then sign a new two- or three-year deal.

"Haven't decided 100 percent, but I've met with Donnie (Nelson) and I just met with Mark (Cuban) once I came back from vacation just seeing what the next few years could bring for this franchise, who's available, what's best for both sides," Nowitzki said. "Since I felt great and played sort of decent, I might opt out and maybe sign a two- or three-year deal. We'll see how it goes, but that's probably the plan for now."

Nowitzki was asked if he's received the answers he's wanted from the Mavs.

"Obviously, we want to take a step forward again. There are some names out there that obviously we'd love to have (in free agency), but we all know how that worked the last few years. Sometimes, there's some luck involved.

"But it's not for lack of trying. Mark and Donnie always have tried their best to keep this a winning franchise and a playoff franchise. I don't think anything else is planned but that."

My favorite player of all time. I hope the team does right by him and actually gets him some legitimate help, instead of getting nobodies like Charmin Parsons. People should see that article listing Dirk's teammates throughout his career, it's pretty bad. get this guy Mike Conley and a legitimate rim protector please!

What a classy player. The franchise doesn't deserve you, Dirk.

Despite being a shell of himself, I still greatly enjoy watching Dirk play. Dude's 37 and still out there dropping ~ 21 PTS36 and over 18 actual PPG while not even playing 32 mpg. Still one of the better offensive players in the league, despite his minutes and draw rate tailing off with his quickness. Still out there doing that move that'll work into his 70s where he just sort of wheels and creates horizontal separation and then fades for a rainbow jumper. Still a nearly 56% TS player and a decent defensive rebounder.

Dude's just awesome to watch. He's like a 7-foot version of one of my favorite opponents when I used to ball at U of T Scarborough. Just get the ball, bump, turn, fade and rainbow. Splash. Lather, rinse, repeat. You're done if he gets a jumper from 10-23 feet, and he's stilla 37% 3pt shooter, and he's still finishing over 70% when he gets in wicked close, even though that barely happens anymore. Soooo nasty.
