Report: 76ers Offer Rudy Fernandez Two-Year, $20M Deal

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Tue Jul 5, 2016 5:19 pm

The Philadelphia 76ers have made a two-year, $20 million offer to Rudy Fernandez.

Fernandez reportedly has a buyout of approximately $4 million with Real Madrid.

The 76ers previously agreed to terms with Sergio Rodriguez, who also has been playing for Real Madrid since returning to Europe.

Fernandez played in the NBA with the Blazers and Nuggets from 2008 until 2012.

Colangelo is up to his old Toronto tricks grabbing undervalued vet euros. A Sergio/Rudy backcourt would have been an absolute joy to watch back in Portland when they were young, we'll see how it goes this time around.

It's a good idea though to take the ballhandling pressure off of Simmmons.

This dude can ball!!! Nate McMillan didn't utilize him properly. In a SSOL offense he'll be great.

Lmao this is a classic Bryan Colangelo move
"We're like Tim Duncan and David Robinson," Villanueva said, following the team's morning shootaround at the America West Arena. "But a younger version. I really feel that."

He sucked in Denver, too! Euroleague makes everyone look like a baller. Sergio Rodriguez couldn't get playing time in the NBA and then became Euroleague MVP.

With all the respect due to McMillan, he didn't use Rodriguez and Fernandez properly, and it was the same thing with Batum, who improved a lot with Stotts, then more with Charlotte where he was allowed to create.
Not saying both have starter level, but they were not help to improve, especially Rodriguez. Let's see what happens before being too hard.

Fernandez had two coaches in the NBA, Rodriguez had three. And I am not defending McMillan; he's not a great coach and is especially hard on PG's so I can see your point a little bit with Sergio. But Fernandez is a shooting specialist who's shooting percentage went down each of his first three years. He didn't put the work in and eventually started complaining about being homesick, about playing time and about NBA life in general. He wanted to be a star in Spain rather than come off the bench in the NBA. He's only back because of the size of the paychecks being handed out this off-season. I hope he's OK with competing for the starting spot.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a fan of Fernandez and I also prefer to see what Rodriguez can do now.
In the end, he's staying with Madrid and the offer appears to never be made fro real. Even if it was made, don't forget he would have pay $4.5M in buyout, leaving $7.75M per year before all taxes which is equivalent to a euro contract (amount is always NET after all taxes and expenses) of nearly Euro 3.4M
Since he's already making Euro 2.8M with Madrid so this 20M offer would have not change his paycheck as much as we can think first.
