Kawhi Leonard Still Preferring Championship Over MVP

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Wed Nov 2, 2016 1:49 pm

Kawhi Leonard finished second in MVP voting last season and is an early contender this season.

Leonard was asked whether he is shooting for an MVP this season as he continues to take on a bigger role with the San Antonio Spurs.

“Nah, I want to win; I want to win,” said Leonard. “I’m a team guy. I’ll turn in all my MVPs if I get an NBA championship.”

Leonard won MVP of the 2014 Finals.

“He’s a special player, without a question,” Pau Gasol said. “I’ve been around, and I’ve played against incredible players, but this guy is just unique. He’s definitely very confident and determined. He may not talk too much, and might keep it quiet most of the time, but his demeanor and his swagger is pretty high even though he doesn’t show much. He doesn’t express it. The way he plays, it’s pretty obvious.”

He might win an MVP award but that wont be the reason.
No player ever said i want MVP rather than NBA title.

Great players won the award with their season performance. How you percieved by media is also important.
Lebron won ROY ahead of Melo. Did he deserved that award? No. Media hype was enough for him.
There were many controversial MVP selection in past years.

I didnt heard any MVP awarded player saying "**** championship, MVP was my goal!"

Has anyone ever said "I want a MVP"
such a dumb question to ask a player, the answer will always be PC

lol seems similar to the description Gasol gave Kobe when he first got traded to the lakers. Kobe is a really quiet teammate - he only seems to show his personality to the media because he is required to talk to them or those special on court moments when he wins a tough playoff series or better yet a championship.

i meant, he will win it because his focus is on team. not because he said he prefers championships to awards. he walks the walk.
