Rockets Offer Donatas Motiejunas Multi-Year Deal Starting At $7M

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Fri Nov 4, 2016 5:58 pm

The Houston Rockets' latest offer is a multi-year contract that begins at $7 million in Year 1.

Motiejunas is still a restricted free agent after letting his $4.4 million qualifying offer expire.

The Rockets traded Motiejunas to the Detroit Pistons at the 2016 deadline in a deal that was rescinded following his physical.

Cheese-us. I would've set a reasonable starting point as about $10-11m a year, no way he's considering $7m. This situation aint moving any time soon.

He's already gone this far, no reason to bend now for a $7 million per multi-year deal.

You are worth what the highest bidder thinks you are worth.

How much your agent thinks you are worth doesn't count unless your agent wants to pay you. =S

A better comparison would be cody zeller and his new 4 year x 14 million per year deal. DMO is a better player right now.

Let him walk Daryl! He has missed all of the offseason and we have a new coach. He would be useless this season on the court after missing so much time.

Beverley has missed just as many games. Let's cut him too then.

Beverley was there for all the offseason workouts, all of training camp, still shows up at practice and games, and is working to get back from surgery earlier than predicted. He has run the new offense and defensive schemes and is as familiar with the new coach as the rest of the team.

D-Mo? Not so much.

Because cutting a player is the same as letting a player walk.

Pretty sure he wouldn't mind playing for another team, but it doesn't seem like many teams are that interested in him.

Better? Maybe.
Younger? Certainly.
Healthier? Absolutely.

Motiejunas showed a tremendous amount of promise two seasons ago, but since then he has missed the entire end of one season and the playoffs, then missed the majority of the following season during which he also had a trade rescinded all over the same back issue.

Big men with back problems rarely get better so the market for D-Mo is virtually nonexistent.
I think anything above a "make good" deal is a risk for the team that signs him. That the Rockets are offering $7M guaranteed is a win for D-Mo.

I was being facetious about Beverley. I just meant missing 5 games at the beginning of the season is not a big deal. Yeah I realize he also missed training camp and he has a new coach but D-Mo would be really good in this new system and letting him walk for nothing like Dwight did would not be good. Capela, Nene, Anderson and Harrell have done OK so far but none of them are as skilled as D-Mo in the paint.

$30 million is life altering. $0, not so much.

If the contract he thinks he deserves was out there, some teams would have offered it by now considering all the money that was being tossed around during the summer.
