Gordon Hayward Will Prioritize Competing For Title As Free Agent

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Wed Dec 14, 2016 6:36 pm

Gordon Hayward said he will prioritize contending for a title as a free agent this offseason.

Hayward will surely have several max contract offers on the open market while the Utah Jazz can offer ore money and an extra guaranteed season.

The Jazz want to get healthy and demonstrate to Hayward that they have a nucleus capable of competing for a title.

"It comes down to where I can compete for a title," he said. "Where I live -- that doesn't affect me. The limelight doesn't matter to me. I just want to make a run at it."

He'd be a perfect get for OKC...be able to move Dipo to 6th man and have Robs move back to guarding 2s. Growth from Adams & Sabonis 2.0 next year should make OKC great again.

I think Oladipo starting next to Hayward and Westbrook with his 3 point shooting would make the team lethal

The Thunder just locked up Russ, Dipo and Adams.

Unless a trade is made, they are locked into $105M in salary for 2017.

OKC has completely taken themselves out of the 2017 free agency market.

The Cavs, Warriors and Clippers won't have any money to sign him. Not sure about the Spurs but they would go after him hard if they have space.

Then you're looking st the next tiers. Raps are capped out. Boston is a possibility. Houston is capped out. OKC is capped out. Portland is capped out. Utah might be on their tier by the end of the season.

Utah might still be his best option here.

I dont get how so many people believe in the raptors, they have zero to chance to win it all.

Yeah, he's going to Boston. The situation is perfect...great coach (that he played for) great city, One all star away from being a top 3 team.

Good call. Forgot about the Hayward/Stevens connection. That definitely makes them #2 in the east and ready to pounce if Cousins becomes available. Pretty sure Bradley starts ahead of Smart though.

I wouldn't be so sure about Houston. If they just move an expiring Brewer, they can get into the mix.

It's funny to see all you guys discussing which 'competitive' team he might choose. He just lied to you guys, he isn't going anywhere.

There's only one reason he will be re-signing with the Jazz. They can offer him a 5yr max at $177mil, vs any other team who can only offer a 4yr $130mil.

I think we have a winner.

I'm not so sure that would be a top 3 team...

Smart and Olynyk are solid bench players but definitely not starters.

Healthy the Jazz might be top 4 along with CLE/GS/SA, so unless these other teams clear space, I think Utah is his best option to get paid and win.

Well that rules out the Celtics. I'd guess he sticks with the Jazz unless the Spurs can figure out a way to open up cap for him.
