Nets Waive Anthony Bennett

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Mon Jan 9, 2017 4:06 pm

The Brooklyn Nets have waived Anthony Bennett.

Bennett appeared in 23 games with the Nets this season, averaging 5.0 points and 3.4 rebounds in 11.5 minutes per game. He was originally signed as a free agent by the Nets on July 14.

After he was the first overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft, Bennett has played for the Cleveland Cavaliers, Minnesota Timberwolves, Toronto Raptors and now the Nets.

He needs to go to Europe or Asia to get his confidence back if he's going to have any shot in the NBA long term

He is done with the NBA. I don't see him being relevant at all, hes tried a number of times.

He can have a great career in Europe (better competition than Asia). He can still get heavy minutes/touches there and keep his competitive career alive. Plus it could give him development and confidence he needs to contribute to Canada's national team, which can be very dangerous assuming all these young and upcoming NBA players commit to the program.

Giannis has been the best by far. He's an absolute monster.

But there have been good players to come out of it that are now earning their respect so I don't think I would classify it as "so trash"

CJ McCollum
Rudy Gobert
V. Oladipo
Steven Adams
K. Caldwell-Pope
D. Schroeder
G. Dieng
A. Len & N. Noel (need playing time)

5/3 in 11mins of play? Doesn't really look that bad to me.

Agreed. It definitely wasn't trash, just happened to be the case that the teams picking at the top mis-evaluated. That's a solid list of players.

On a career best (!!!) 41% from the floor which is horrible for a PF that doesn't really bring much else to the floor. He can't hit the 3, is a mediocre rebounder, and has a 94/109 ortg/drtg split for his career. He's garbage for the NBA. Doesn't have a role.

I remember watching Lou Roe play at Umass alongside Camby and thought how he's strictly a great college player. He could ball if he was going against comparable sized players. Excellent in fact. Bennett, like Roe had traditional PF games in SF bodies. Everyone but the Cavs could see that. With Giannis, Gobert, Dieng, etc available, in a pretty weak class...there was no excuse for taking Bennett. He's done nothing to turn his game around or acquire the skills necessary to be a big SF. He just needs to go to China and do nothing but work on his 3 point shooting if he is going to have any hope of playing in the NBA at a high level.

Warriors should take a look. They seem to be able to coax value from these types of guys. Playing in that type of system he just may be a low risk fit off the bench...or "maybe he should just go to China"

Still beyond me what cavs were thinking taking him #1. Wish no ill will against him, but most thought at the time it was a terrible pick.

His per minute numbers were actually pretty good and the couple games he played over 20 minutes he did very well. I never thought he should have went #1 (I persoanlly liked Noel despite the injury and Oladipo much more) but I didnt expect him to be good. He's a stretch 4 which has a place in this leauge but in all fairness he's never had a coach commmit to him. They havent thrown him to the fire once, he's been playing limited minutes since entering the league.

It really wasnt that bad. There are as many rotation players in that draft then any other draft. Giannis and McCollum were great picks and Oladipo and no Noel are no slouches. It'll produce an all star (giannis) before the 2014 Wiggins draft does.

Yup, just as many rotation players as most drafts produce. Those are all quality guys there. If those were the top 9 guys in a lottery i'd say its a pretty strong draft, actually better than the top 9 in the Wiggins draft.
