Blazers Determined To Trade Festus Ezeli By Deadline

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Mon Feb 13, 2017 12:27 am

The Portland Trail Blazers are determined to trade Festus Ezeli before the trade deadline.

Ezeli could be of value to a team trying to get to the salary floor.

Ezeli is in the first year of a two-year deal for Ezeli that pays $7.4 million this season but is guaranteed for only $1 million next season.

Ezeli has been injured all season.

If I were Masai, I wouldn't mind this for Jared Sullinger.

Our roster is mighty thin at C and we won't be keeping Sully after this year anyway. At worst, we can get a look at a backup C next year or late this year, depending on how long he'll be out

Trade to Brooklyn with a 2nd pick and cash for Scola.

For teams that don't meet the salary floor, there is no penalty and they only need to pay up to the salary floor and have the "extra" salary split among the players on the roster.

There is no incentive for any team to trade any asset away to meet the salary floor.

Over half the salary has already been paid to Ezeli; the receiving team will only be liable for the remaining pro-rated amount on Ezeli's salary - ergo, there's still savings to be had by an owner.
