Alvin Gentry Could Be Fired If Pelicans Don't Show Progresss

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Fri Mar 17, 2017 3:35 pm

The future of Alvin Gentry as head coach of the New Orleans Pelicans is in danger. Gentry has been told by management they expect the Pelicans to show signs of progress over the final few weeks of the season.

The Sporting News also reports the Pelicans haven't made a definite decision on Dell Demps' job despite his trade for DeMarcus Cousins.

Both Demps and Gentry will be evaluated when the season ends.

Since acquiring Cousins, the Pelicans have fared 4-7.

Cant expect much, you look at the box scores and production has been primarily coming from Cousins and Davis, bringing in Crawford for 2 years will help since he can shoot and create his own shot in the perimeter. Re-signing Holiday is a must, hes the ideal point guard to lineup with Boogie and Davis. With that amount of talent in Cousins and Davis not much is needed around them to become a title contender, Hill at the 3, Crawford at the 2 and Holiday at the 1 is sufficient, if anything they can spend more money on rounding out a bench. Re-sign Cousins to a max at all cost and fire Gentry, this team needs Mark Jackson or Avery Johnson. Or make Calipari leave Kentucky for New Orleans so he can coach both his kentucky products.

Ive been around long enough to see all of Gentry's head coaching stops and what I dont understand is how he keeps getting more head coaching jobs. He's terrible. He's not intelligent in his game plans, he's not articulate with the media or other team stakeholders, and lastly he's not got the charisma that it takes to get NBA players and their egos to buy in to whatever it is he's trying to do.

I think Pelicans should give Patrick Ewing a shot at that head coach position. he can let Ice & Fire produce to their full potential

I'd take him on the Bulls over Hoiberg.

Great job. DeMarcus Cousins loves it when you fire his coaches. It's basically all he knows.

This is exactly a good reason for Anthony Davis to bolt Orleans. The management screwed up on this one badly. I never understood the Monty William firing. He built the culture there and they made the playoffs 2 years ago when AD was still young with the same roster and these idiots fire him AND bring in a guy who doesn't have a lick of an idea of what to do with a big man. He was running the warriors offense before this and the Suns before that. AD get out of there while you can. Unlike other superstars, you're justified to leave. Your talents are going to waste. ‎

I never understood why they went with him in the first place. AD is a defensive player, and instead of signing a defensive head coach, like a coach Thibs or Mark Jackson, you go out and sign the 2nd worse coach out there. I'm not someone who wants a coach to get fired, however in this situation you might as well let him go.

Lol at Mark Jackson, maybe mandatory prayer sessions are what Boogie needs and will cause Holiday to stay healthy.

I never found Alvin Gentry to be a good NBA head coach, this should have kept Monty Williams imo. Guys I consider good coaches today in the league are Pops (obviously), Rick Carlisle, Eric Spolestra -- What he's done with the Heat is a major plus in my books, Doc Rivers, Brad Stevens, Luke Walton, Terry Stotts and Mike Malone.

He's a precious black coach in a league of **** white coaches. His resume isn't weighed the same.

Alvin Gentry is not the problem. It's time to look at what you've been surrounding Davis with. After going through so many coaches, it should be obvious that the coach is not the problem.

Lol. This isn't on him of course, but he sure seems to be a bad omen for head coaches.
