The Golden State Warriors had interest in trading with the Toronto Raptors for Kyle Lowry in 2013.

During the early part of Masai Ujiri's tenure with the Raptors, he shopped Lowry to the New York Knicks and other teams. Lowry was set to be a free agent that offseason.

The Warriors were unwilling to include Festus Ezeli with a pick in their offer for Lowry.

Lowry went on to lead the Raptors to a playoff berth and has become one of their best players in franchise history.

Lowry conceivably could have given the Warriors a two-point guard backcourt with Stephen Curry. The great unknown is whether the Warriors would have been more willing to include Klay Thompson in their trade offer that offseason for Kevin Love if they had traded for and re-signed Lowry.

Well, great how things worked out.

These old news are not useful at all. Lowry back then wasn't the Lowry now, otherwise Raptors would have fetched way more than Ezeli (even when healthy) and a mid-late pick. Lowry+Curry is not as good as Thompson+Curry where Thompson's size at SG perfectly complement Curry.

Nobody says they would have had to choose Lowry over Klay. Lowry would have been a great 6th man, although he wanted to be a starter clearly.

combo guard won't work on warriors, it will create more difficulty for them during playoffs especially guarding opponent SG and no way Lowry will accept to be 6th man coming from the bench

Yeah because McCollum, Gordon, Green, Hood, Reddick, Oladipo, Allen are all such big guards that would give Lowry or Curry fits in the post.

You forgot Warriors plays Switch-On-All defense and a lot of help defense. When the other team run pick and roll, Klay's size allow him to cover the bigs for a short time. Or when the opposing team drive to the bucket off parameter mismatches, Klay's size allow him to better deter the drive. A smaller guard like Lowry would get eaten alive pairing up with Curry.

Don't get me wrong, Lowry is fantastic during the regular season, but he absolutely disappears every single year in the playoffs. Last year he played in 9 straight playoffs games before shooting above 40% FG. The year before, when Toronto got swept by Washington, Lowry shot 31% FG, averaged 3 TO's and 4.5 PF. Nobody talks about the fact that Lowry is the main reason Toronto struggles in the post season.

I agree, but he is also the main reason we make the playoffs and the same reason we went to the ECF. Most people will tell you we only go as far as he takes us. A non star doesn't have that ability.

You have to be good to get lucky... Massai really lucked out on that one. The thing is though, Lowry equally benefited from those trades not coming to fruition. How good will you be as Steph's backup and we already know New York is where careers go to die slow.

Raptors where 2 wins away from the NBA Finals. If Lowry is trash at scoring in the playoffs but makes the right plays to lead the Raptors to the Finals idgaf about statistical analysis. Win ball games. That's why they play the sport.

I'm pretty sure a lot of players FG% drops in the playoffs, usually they're going against good teams and most teams actually play defense in the playoffs.

The low 30s is pretty bad but 39 and 40 I don't think that's a big deal considering he's shooting under 43% from the field in the regular season for his career.

he had one terrible post season where he played until the ECF(large sample size). and you are correct a majority of players stats drop in the playoffs only a few excel.
