Paul George Not Ready To Think About Future

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Mon Apr 24, 2017 3:29 pm

The Indiana Pacers were swept by the Cleveland Cavaliers in their first round series, quickly setting up a potentially momentous offseason for the franchise with Paul George.

George was asked whether he wants to remain with the Pacers and what it would take for him to be convinced stay.

“I ain’t even at that point, yet,” George said after the loss.

George has been connected to the Los Angeles Lakers, a franchise desperate for a star of his magnitude.

“End of the day, it falls on me. I can always do things better,” George said.

George and the Pacers have been on the losing end of LeBron James' teams repeatedly in the playoffs.

“It’s real frustrating to continue losing to the same team, or the same person. It’s what I work hard for in the summer, to try to help lead a team of my own and it’s ultimately who I’m always going to see and face. But again, came up short. Didn’t do enough,” George said. “If we want to win, that’s the team that we have to work towards stacking up against. If we want to be serious, that’s the team we’ve got to look at and figure out how can we match up against them.”

PG-13 isn't clutch, trade him.

Paul George shot 38 FG% and Lebron shot 54 FG%. End of story. You need to get on Lebron's level before you talk about beating him.

Um, no you don't.
Nobody is on Lebron's level, but he's been beaten several times. It's a team game.

Can't beat Lebron and the Cavs in the east, but he can take the Lakers up against Golden State? At this day and age in the NBA, it's if you can't beat them, join them. If you want a chip, you have to join a super team.

Not to take away anything from the defending champ Cavs, but the Pacers lost to the on-off, recently slumping 51-win Cavs. Moving to the Lakers where the Warriors and Spurs are, which nearly never have fewer than four 50-win teams (sometimes 6-7), is not going to solve his playoff troubles.

People actually think he's going to the Lakers lol Larry Bird holds all the cards here and he's not gonna trade him to his personal NBA rival if he does decide it's best to deal him he's just gonna send him to to the Celtics and knowing how this goes he'll just become invested in them and want to end his career and win there this happens to every former Laker fan who ultimately becomes a Celtic.

Paul George was leaving after game 1. He's off to LA.

The pacers barely lost those game to the slumping Cavs just because they suck as a team. PG wanted the clutch shot, in game 4 he got his chance and all he did was rushing a contested 3 pointer that missed everything. He is not a good leader nor superstar until he understand what team game is. McMillan is not a good coach especially on offense. His plays have no imagination and are nothing but iso and pick/roll that are easily defended even by a bad defensive team like the Cavs. The pacer had no answer to a simple trap by the Cavs on PG on every possession up top, rest of the team just stood there dumbfounded like that's something they have never seen in their life. Had they not been this bad, it would have been 4-0 in their favor.

If PG wants a chance for the final, he should stay in the minor league East. Joining Celtics would be the logical move. He is not a good leader, but would be a nice 2nd option for a good team. Though Celtics would be better off with Butler.

It will be obvious where he goes when the nba announces this season's all-nba teams. If PG made one of the teams - he's eligible for a designated veteran max extension aka the largest contract possible in the nba at about 5 years 210M based on projected salary caps. According to the new cba it would be an extension on his current deal so he'd have to opt into his existing player option for the 2018-19 season and both he and the pacers can't consent to a trade until after the first year of the new deal 2019-2020. So effectively he can't be traded by the pacers even if they wanted to till 2020. However if he doesn't make the all-nba team than he is not eligible for the larger max (you need to meet the new designated veteran requirements or have 10+ seasons in the league) than the ball will be in Bird's court to decide if he wants to trade PG before he becomes a ufa in 2018. At that point as a free agent, the Pacers can offer an extra guaranteed contract year and higher raises but if PG went to a larger market like an LA or NYC he would easily recoup those earnings and more with a bigger shoe deal, more endorsements and more exposure going forward into the future. OKC is in the same situation with Westbrook who is 100% going to be eligible for the DV extension regardless if he wins mvp cause he has already made 2 all-nba teams in 2 of the previous 3 seasons. Curry is expected to be the first player ever to sign the DV max extension(<10 seasons in nba) this summer. CP3 and Kyle Lowry are eligible for the same contract because each has played 10+ seasons in the nba but it's no guarantee their teams will pay them the full amount.

The Lakers will trade Nance, Mosgov and the 3rd overall pick for George right before the draft. And then we're signing Blake Griffin.

New Laker lineup 2017/18:

G - Russell/Ennis
G - Clarkson/Brewer
F - George/Ingram
F - Griffin/Randle/Deng
C - Zubac/Black

Dude wants to win. LA are light years away from competing. If he doesn't make All NBA and leaves Indiana it will be for the Celtics.
One day Marcus Smart will be defensive player of the year, mark my words.

keep dreaming and why would grffin leave the extra money and guaranteed money to live in the same city and just change jerseys - let alone the fact lakers are years away from contention while clippers still seem appealing to veteran free agents.
