Wizards Match Otto Porter's Four-Year $106.5M Offer Sheet With Nets

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Sun Jul 9, 2017 3:42 pm

The Washington Wizards have matched the four-year, $106.5 million max contract offer sheet Otto Porter signed with the Brooklyn Nets.

Porter will be the Wizards' highest paid player next season at $24.8 million.

The Wizards now have 15 players signed, 13 with guaranteed contracts. The team’s estimated 2017-18 salary will be $126.1 million, which will be $10.7 million over the luxury tax line.

Elements of the deal include a 15 percent trade kicker, a player option for the fourth year and a wrinkle that half of Porter’s annual salary will be delivered to him by Oct. 1 each year.

If the Raptors can pay 3 players 80% of the space available under the tax line, why can't the Wizards do the same?

Maybe they can play 3v3 when they meet as well.

I honestly have no idea why teams constantly are willing to pay guys who barely move the needle $20+ million a year. Just because you have it doesn't mean you need to spend it. Bottom line: the Wizards won't go any further than maybe a 6th or 7th seed with Wall/Beal/Porter as their top 3 players.

Didn't they just finish 4th?
