Rockets, Knicks Discussing Four-Team Carmelo Anthony Trade Scenarios

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Wed Jul 12, 2017 3:13 pm

The Houston Rockets and New York Knicks continue to discuss Carmelo Anthony trade scenarios.

The two teams are considering four-team trade scenarios in order to make a deal worth for both sides. The Rockets would likely need to send out Ryan Anderson in any trade.

While both sides are motivated to agree upon a trade centered on Anthony, no agreement is imminent.

Anthony has a no-trade clause but is willing to waive it to join the Rockets.

Is Melo willing to waive his trade kicker to join the Rockets as well?

Rockets get: Melo
Knicks get: Rockets 2018 1st round pick
Nets get: Ryan Anderson, Rockets 2020 1st round pick

And add any players needed to make salary match
Makes sense to me

Rockets get Melo
Jazz get Ariza
Knicks get Reggie Jackson and Jon Leuer
Pistons get Ryan Anderson and Boris Diaw

A few future picks may be required to get it done.

i'd rather the knicks get the 2020 first round pick. rockets won't be as good then.

Im thinking in that scenario NY has less leverage since Melo has the no trade clause.

The Nets (or any team that takes on anderson) are gonna get some incentive bc without somoene taking on ryan anderson the trade isnt possible.

NY finally gets out of Melo hell. Rockets add a potential top 2 seed piece. So that 3rd team is gonna win in this trade.

The problem is who is going to take on Ryan Anderson's $20 million salary?

No one wants that Ryan Anderson contract for nearly $60M over 3 years. Whoever takes it on will have to get a lot back, like young players and picks. However, no young team wants a long 3 year contract like that even with picks and young guys. Which team would actually want Ryan Anderson? I think the Suns should take a look at him and try to dump Brandon Knight. Also toss in TJ Warren because they have Jackson now. Salaries match up, and the timing of the contracts match up too. It would be an upgrade for the Suns over Knight and Warren. If the Suns could also get some additional pick some or young players for taking on Anderson's contract, I think it would be a good deal.

i still think the knicks should take the salary on. not like any team is going to beat GSW for the next few years. might as well pile up the picks while you can.

Rockets get Melo.

NY gets Booker and a 2nd.

Brooklyn gets Anderson, Long, Williams, 2019 unprotected, and a 2021 top 14 protected.

Something like this should work.

Yea i was confused as to Booker also. Not bc i dont know who Trevor is but bc that makes no sense lol Melo is not THAT bad of a cancer/player/contract. The knicks will get more than Trevor booker and a 2nd round pick.

Who's Long? Grant Long? Lou Williams? Just no all around!

I'm thinking they meant Shawn Long (unguaranteed contract) and Troy Wiliams (currently unsigned)
Harden is still a work-in-progress. He can score, but he can't help his teammate that much - Yao Ming

Would Knicks want Robin Lopez back? I know Willy H. is the future center but he's still young at 23 and could need more time to develop. RoLo played really well with KP during Porzingis' rookie season.

Rockets get: Melo
Bulls get: Ryan Anderson, Shawn Long, Tim Quarterman
Knicks get: Robin Lopez, Jerian Grant, Denzel Valentine, Rocket's first rounder?
http://basketball.realgm.com/tradechecker/saved_trade/6908748

Bulls are currently only at $73m in salary without Mirotic, way under the salary floor. Anderson is a better shooter so maybe they won't need to sign Mirotic if they trade for Ryan. Felicio could be their starting center with Markkanen and Portis backing up both 4 and 5 spots.

Knicks get a couple of young players in Grant (also a former Knick) and Valentine and a veteran dependable big man in Lopez who is familiar with the team. And no long term contracts as Lopez is only signed 2 more years at under $15m per.
Harden is still a work-in-progress. He can score, but he can't help his teammate that much - Yao Ming

NY isn't getting more than salary relief and a 2nd or possibly a highly protected first.
