Derrick Rose To Meet Again With Bucks

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Fri Jul 14, 2017 3:58 pm

Derrick Rose and the Milwaukee Bucks are scheduling a meeting for this weekend.

Rose has already met once with the Bucks this offseason.

The main obstacle on an agreement with Milwaukee has been compensation.

Milwaukee is approximately $1.6 million over the tax. The Bucks have $7.6 million of the full mid-level exception available but can use only $4.4 million to sign a free agent. Exceeding a salary of $4.4 million would trigger the NBA hard cap and restrict the Bucks from exceeding salaries of $125.2 million.

The Bucks could trade John Henson to shed salary.

If Spurs can convince Tony Parker to sit out next season 17-18 - they could apply for a disabled player exception and sign Rose for 1 year 7.5M (no state tax). If Parker, rehabs faster they could just waive him and he can go play for the French team he owns that he already joined in the last lockout than resign with the spurs for 18-19 to continue his nba career.

Why would the Bucks want to pay Rose more than $4.4 million just to find out that he's a terrible fit on their roster?

Thought they would let Malcolm continue his development.

Good question. They love paying players who wont fit or arent very good to begin with. Henson, Plumlee, Mirza and maybe now Rose... Although at 4-5 million it wouldnt be a terrible idea to try to possibly catch lightning in a bottle if he has anything left which I doubt he does.

Rose would be a decent fit for the Bucks. They showed last playoffs that they don't really have a go-to scorer that can take some pressure off Giannis to do everything. Middleton is nice, but he's more of a jump shooter than a pure "bucket-getter". Bringing D-Rose off the bench for 20-25 minutes a night could help them get over the first round hump with relatively no down side...

Delle is a much better shooter and defender. He should be the backup. That's why Rose is unneccesary.

It's easy to say that but hard to accept since even with his decline as of late - he is still enshrined in history as the youngest mvp ever and also like Bogdon a former rookie of the year. I feel like he's going to push for starter's minutes and this could hurt Bogdon's play from a psychological standpoint. People forget Roy Hibbert was a pretty good player and former allstar with pacers and everything started going downwards when Pacers signed Andrew Bynum as a backup with the assumption he'd push Hibbert for minutes. It didn't workout like that for Bynum but had lasting effects on Hibbert's psyche to this day.

Poor Rose, even the Knicks don't want him, wait, there's gonna be a new GM

This will happen and it so typical of the bucks. They really are franchise that really is on a treadmill. Not a good move for this group building around giannis antetokounmpo .
