Rich Paul Reached Out To Lakers On Kentavious Caldwell-Pope

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Wed Jul 19, 2017 4:26 am

Rich Paul reached out to the Los Angeles Lakers about their interest in Kentavious Caldwell-Pope as he knew they had ample cap space this offseason that they were trying to preserve for 2018.

“Rich had called us with a possibility he would consider us for a one-year deal,” Magic Johnson said. “Rob and I really started watching film and we were just blown away. ... I wanted somebody mean and tough that we could count on to get that big stop for us.”

Caldwell-Pope signed a one-year, $18 million deal with the Lakers.

Johnson and Rob Pelinka both thanked Paul for his work in helping the deal go smoothly.

Paul also represents LeBron James, who the Lakers are expected to pursue in 2018.

KCP is mean and tough now?

I like KCP, and I'm sad he's gone, but that's a wholly inaccurate representation of his character.

KCP is reserved, quiet, and a very hard worker that always gives 100% effort on the court.

When they mean "mean and tough" I think they are talking about the way he plays: not his personality.

This is a great deal. Because What LeBron wants to see, is a front office that takes care of its people. Will put together teammates, regardless of money. Winning organization. No excuses and won't bad mouth you when you leave.

Rich Paul? That's really Lebron scoping the Lakers. Laying the groundwork for his possible next destination.

This smells an awful lot like collusion.

Quid pro quo.

Scratch my back, I'll scratch yours.

Rich Paul gave KCP bad advice on what type of market to expect this summer after all those awful contracts were bandied about last summer. He got LAL to extend a fat, 1-yr contract to (somewhat) bail him out of hot water with his client.

Could it be with the expectation that LBJ goes there next summer?

Cause that would be hella inappropriate.

Yeah collusion is what happens during free agency. Players, agents and GMs collude with one another to build teams.

Lebron is too scared to go West.

He has proven times and times again that he like easy path to finals.

That's not accurate either, though. He's certainly not mean (11 techs in 4 years, although trending upwards), and he's not really tough, either. He can guard the perimeter, point guards and 2's, but he's too thin and gets bodied up by 3's.

Just seemed like a weird thing to say about a nice guy that works hard.

playing tough and mean does not mean that you get technicals.

Can confirm, Melo almost led the league in ejections and he doesn't play tough, hard or mean.

So in other words, 'agent for player calls team about possible job'

Cmon people. Rich Paul no lknger reps 2 or 3 players, he has about a dozen or more. Bron can't play with all of them lol

And ESPN crossed a line I was even suprised at:

'Rich Paul to Lakers: let's talk"

No mention on KCP. Just straight up bent the truth. Disgusting

100% agree all around.

This is not a story. Agents contact teams constantly during free agency. If they aren't, they aren't doing their job very well at all. They don't just wait by a phone and be reactive. That's what players do. It's one of the main reasons players hire agents.

I think he is going west because he is scared legacy wise - he does not want to keep losing in the finals. Hes - 3 and 5 in the nba finals. MJ lost in earlier rounds and reached his first finals when he was almost 6 years older than lebron was in 2007. However, all anyone remembers is that Jordan was undefeated whenever he played in the finals. If Lebron stays east and the warriors keep handing it to him - he will never be able to at least redeem himself with .500 record in the nba finals.

Again. This feels like collusion.

It is. Which is the hypocrisy of a half mil penalty. Because you could literally fine teams and players left and right. Collusion happens between agents, players and teams all the time. Only Indy however was butt hurt and reported it because they did not want to lose PG
