Raptors Sign Kyle Wiltjer

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Tue Aug 15, 2017 7:46 pm

The Toronto Raptors have signed forward Kyle Wiltjer.

Wiltjer, 6-foot-10, 240 pounds, appeared in 14 games for the Houston Rockets last season, totaling 13 points and 10 rebounds in 44 minutes of action. He also averaged 20.5 points, 6.4 rebounds and 35.9 minutes in 22 contests for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers of the NBA G League. He shot .379 (81-for-214) from three-point range with the Vipers.

Wiltjer signed with the Rockets as an undrafted free agent in September 2016. He played two collegiate seasons at Kentucky (2011-13) before transferring to Gonzaga (2014-16), where he averaged a team-high 20.4 points during his senior season. Wiltjer was named All-West Coast Conference First Team as a junior and senior.

A stretch 4 that can't stretch.
If the Clippers win the championship next year I'm getting banned from RealGM

Will be surprised if he fails to carve out a career, even if it's just as a journeyman.

Really? The guy has no lateral movement. And lacks any mobility to be anything more than a stretch 4. Doesn't shoot well enough outside to make up for being a liability on defense. Unable to guard multiple positions.

This is a homecoming signing. He may be a glorified 15th or 16th man, but it will be short lived. You can't make a name for yourself with cinder block feet.

He shot 37.7% on 9.8 (!) 3 point attempts per game in the d league, and actually rebounded some. No reason he can't play spot minutes as a stretch 4 with good playmakers on the floor. Novak made a career out of it, and his lateral quickness was non existent.

9.8 attempts per game is incredibly high for a big man that doesn't have the ball to create off of the dribble. He must be a phenomenal shooter to hit 37.7% on that volume.

20 PPG, almost 7 boards and almost 38% on 10 attempts per game.

COME ON!!

The kid can contribute in the right situation.
He'd be a STAR in any euro league, but he will grow into an NBA player as a specialist

I could see the Raptors giving him minutes as a 5 out on the perimeter against slow footed 5s who prefer to stay in the paint
