Daryl Morey: James Harden Is An Unbelievable Recruiter

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Thu Aug 17, 2017 3:29 pm

Daryl Morey was asked about how James Harden factored into the recruitment of Chris Paul to the Houston Rockets.

The Rockets acquired Paul in an opt-in-and-trade deal with the Los Angeles Clippers.

"There's no coaching there. He's not naturally an extroverted guy," said Morey. "He's a worker, a quiet guy who just wants to win. His first job if he wasn't doing this wouldn't be like the lead sales guy somewhere. He'd probably be the strategic guy because he's so smart.

"With that said, one-on-one he's so good with people. Obviously the great guys are all together. Whether it be USA Basketball or weddings or whatever it is. They get together and they talk. And one-on-one I can say James is an unbelievable recruiter because he's smart. He understands the plan. He wants to execute for the team he's leading. It makes my job easy, frankly, to have him."

Ummm, which great player Harden recruited these last few years other than a CP3 who was on his way out due to that big contract he is not getting from the clippers?

I'm not sure what your point is, Ryan Anderson had a helluva year for the Rockets.

The clippers were going to offer him that contract, he wanted out anyways.

Balmer has already acknowledged the Clippers wanted to keep CP3 and were willing to pay.
Chris Paul just decided it was time to move on.

To my knowledge the players Harden has helped recruit to Houston are:
Dwight Howard
Trevor Ariza
Eric Gordon
Chris Paul
PJ Tucker

Oh, and the great Bobby Brown, lol.
All kidding aside that's a pretty good list.

Dwight Howard?

Very interesting in terms of planning and strategy.

He's must be an unbelievable lair cause he can't be telling them the truth. Otherwise it would go something like this....

"yeah, dude what's going to happen is I'm going to have the ball in my hands all the time and your going to play defense for me while I catch my breath down there. Some times when I drive to the rim I will pass it to you if you man jumps in my lane if your pretty open. Sound like fun."

Not nearly.
Clearly he's overpaid but he's still a capable contributor on any NBA team. Don't let the chatter surrounding the Carmelo kerfuffle mislead you.
He's part of the reason the Rockets aren't pressed to offer more. They are more than happy to roll with Ryno.

Trevor Ariza was with the Washington Wizards when James Harden was traded to Houston.

He played one season with Houston in 2009/2010 then was traded to New Orleans.
Then after two years in N.O. followed by two years with the Wizards, he was convinced to come back to Houston in a three team sign and trade deal involving Omer Asik.

Yea that is why 1 year into his new contract he is untradeable and nobody wants him. Not saying he doesn't serve a purpose for a team. He is a good 3 point shooter, but that is all he is. 20 million a year for a 3 point shooter is absurd.

So is your argument that he didn't have a good year with the Rockets? Are you of the belief they don't want him back?
Or is there some other point you were trying to make and does it relate to the original topic here which is Daryl Morey's comments about James Harden's ability to recruit?

Seriously you really believe Balmer's words after losing his best player?

And I knew some would answer DHoward but obviously I stated "great player"

I would agree so, he would bring them to his favorite strip club to discuss business

Wasn't Dwight Howard the biggest free agent in the league when Houston signed him?
