Executives Expect LeBron James To Leave Cavs In 2018

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Fri Aug 25, 2017 5:14 pm

LeBron James can become a free agent in 2018 and he's widely expected by executives around the NBA to leave the Cleveland Cavaliers.

"He's out," a Western Conference scout says.

"Foregone conclusion," one Eastern Conference general manager said.

James has been most strongly linked to the Los Angeles Lakers. The top three reasons why James would want to join the Lakers are to further cement his post-playing career in TV and film production, leading three different franchises to a title and to create a potential path to an ownership stake with the Lakers.

James has relinquished his goal of matching Michael Jordan's three championship rings, according to a source.

"That was once his obsession," the source said. "But even if LeBron thinks he has five good years left, he's not thinking he's going to beat Golden State four out of the next five years. I don't think he's making it about that anymore. When he said, 'I don't have anything left to prove' during the Finals, that's where that came from."

So a source thinks the best player in the world still in his prime plans on chasing notoriety versus championships? That's a bad look for the league.

So he'll go down as the best player ever... in Cleveland, Ohio.

So when he said "Not 5, Not 6, Not 7", I guess he was actually right.

Why do we even listen to sports annalist anymore? When is the last time they PRODUCED a rumor that was true? Did they even mention Boston as a potential landing spot for Kyrie? They said Phoenix and bla bla. Did they mention South Beach as Lebron's destination or anticipate him going back home nope.

Did they rumor that Paul George would go to OKC? Nope

Jimmy Butler to the the Wolves? Nope

Matter of fact...when is the last time this jokes actually got something right?

The article needs to be amended. Jordan won six titles, not three. If they meant three more titles to match Jordan's six, it would need to be amended to reflect that. It's nice to know Lebron finally came to reality and accepted the fact that he can't hold MJ's jock strap. It was getting a bit pathetic with the cherry picking attempts by forming Super Teams to try and match him.

Chauncey Billups wanted nothing to do with the Cavs, because he knew Lebron was leaving.
Melo did not want to go to Cleveland to play with his friend, because he obviously knows he is leaving.
Kyrie wanted out because Lebron is leaving and he didn't want to inherit the mess Lebron made.

The events of this offseason make it pretty clear that Lebron is leaving at the end of the yea, whether he is willing to admit it or not.

It would be bigger news if anyone thinks he is staying.

Lebron can pick any one other allstar to go with him to LA, Anyone... and it still wont be enough to win 1 game against Golden State in the playoffs. he can choose to take PG13 with him, and they'll get stepped on against GS if they play in the postseason. He could take R Westbrook with him, same outcome. Although lakers have two max spots, Golden state has 4 Beasts. Lebron is going from an NBA runner up team to an NBA middling playoff team in the Lakers who will likely cap out at approximately the Clippers success level. Spare me the Lonzo Ball/ Brandon Ingram duo that will help them win it all. Those guys, although good, are no different than any other young great talent. They wont really start to take over the NBA until they're like 24ish. By the time they're at the top, Lebron will be definitely finished as a top dog.

How often are these executives ever right? Seems like we see these kinds of reports come out all the time and they're wrong.

Where the hell did wanting to have partial ownership of the Lakers come from? Im no expert but i seriously doubt hes going there. Several free agents have said the Lakers free agent pitch is showing off trophies and selling people on branding but absolutely no plan on how to win basketball games. I dont think LeBron is putting hia ego against that legacy. Who says the Cavs dont flip Love and the Brooklyn pick for a potential star?

How about if all three of them take pay cuts and land there?

OTOH, if CP3 didn't leave and LBJ go to the Clippers, that'd be a pretty good team
