Pistons Shopped Andre Drummond Last Season

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Sat Sep 23, 2017 6:29 pm

The Detroit Pistons shopped Andre Drummond for a large portion of last season and found little interest from other teams.

Drummond signed a five-year, $130 million contract with the Pistons during the 2016 offseason in restricted free agency.

Drummond has plateaued in his development on offense and has regressed on defense.

The Piston hope Drummond plays with more energy in 17-18.

The part where they signed him to $130/5 is when he became unmovable, there was no reason to give him that contract other than he was unfortunately named to the Allstar game.

He's probably the worst player to be named an allstar in several years. Middling skill level coupled with poor effort.

What a disappointment, along with Monroe

Maybe hire Big Ben to coach him?

I don't know if you can teach what Ben Wallace had. Some of that comes from within. He is probably the most fundamentally challenged All-Star in the history of the game... and he has a good shot at the HOF, assuming the voters think defense is important.

But if it can be taught, maybe you're a genius. When Wallace went undrafted he stopped focusing on offense and committed all of his energy to being a defensive force. One summer of that might turn things around for Drummond. Like Dwight, he spends too much time working on what he doesn't do well instead of embracing what he does do well.

Effort and instincts are tough to teach.
Brian Geltzeiler: You see Mark Jackson getting a head coaching job as early as next year?

Adrian Wojnarowski: Not if people make calls on him. Not if an organization is doing their homework and knows all the things he brings with him.

lol, thx.

I was thinking more of hiring him full time to get on his case, all day, all season long.

Can't teach heart either, and Big Ben had more heart in his pinky finger than Drummond ever will.

Except when they play alongside Chris Paul.
(See DeAndre Jordan)

If Paul was on the Pistons, Drummond would be DeAndre, and DeAndre would be Drummond... :)

DeAndre is a very playmaker friendly center due to his superior ability to catch lobs, something which Drummond can't near. Still, I agree that Drummond would have looked way better than his current self if he played alongside Paul.

Stop, rance. Drummond has no post game and plays lazy. If he had a good post game a great motor...then he'd be a terrific player. Sure, the center position is a little less useful on offense now but that's a matter of degree not kind. Drummond being on the trade block was about Drummond more than anything else.

Rudy Gobert?

Drummond's problem is that he hasn't been able to translate his athletic and physical attributes into being a great defensive player.

Effort if the biggest single attribute for a good defensive player. I just don't see the effort, he rides his athleticism and looks disinterested.
