Cavaliers Open Dialogue With Richard Jefferson's Agent On Roster Situation

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Thu Oct 5, 2017 12:45 pm

The Cleveland Cavaliers have been in touch with the agent of Richard Jefferson about the possibility of him not making their regular season roster.

Jefferson makes $2.5 million this season compared to $7.3 million for Channing Frye, which makes Jefferson an easier contract to waive or trade.

"You go into every year assuming that whatever the coach needs, that's what you have to be ready to do," said Jefferson.

Due to the Cavaliers tax situation, it is unlikely they would waive a player they just signed.

Not sure how Jefferson is an easier target. He seems more valuable than Frye as Frye can't even be on the floor against the Warriors. Also, they save 7.3 mil in cap space + luxury taxes by releasing Frye, no? I must be missing something.

Sucks they can't trade Shumpert, because I'd much rather have Jefferson

Basically the Cavs are asking the agent to do some back room contacting with other teams interested in adding Jefferson.

Well the Cavs would be spending $7.3m to waive Frye vs $2.5m for RJ. That's a $5m gap right here. So yes, RJ is easier to trade or waive

The worst part of getting rid of Jefferson is that his podcast relationship with Frye would probably end too :nonono:

If only someone would take Shumps 10m deal

a lot of teams could use jefferson, very useful bench player, but all these good vets only wanna play for a couple of teams or they rather retire

Is that how RJ's career's gonna end?

Or another contender with roster spot would want him?

Thanks for the honesty.

Hes a pest as a player. Shows up when you least expect it. Would be good for them to bring him back.

why does Jefferson care anyway. He was about to retire before Cavs pleaded him to play a little longer. you got your ring. Hang it up!

Frye gives them more flexibility is a deadline deal.

I have a better chance of getting signed than Shump getting picked up for 10 mil unless that trade has the Cavs taking in some other toxic contract(s).
