Markelle Fultz To Begin Season As Reserve

The Philadelphia 76ers will bring Markelle Fultz off the bench to begin his rookie season.

Fultz was limited in preseason due to soreness in his right knee and right shoulder, playing a total of just 47 minutes.

“He hasn’t played much basketball in preseason,” Brett Brown said Sunday after practice. “He’s been out for a while. He hasn’t been with our group. I think the decision like, do you put him into the fire right away and have him play against starting NBA defensive players, especially with the little foundation that he has? I don’t think that’s smart.”

Fultz is prepared to accept the assignment despite being the first overall pick.

“At the end of the day, I want to do whatever I’ve got to do to help my team win,” Fultz said. “So if that’s coming off the bench, I’m fine with that. Just contribute any ways I can.”

Probably a good move to start the season. I think he should eventually start to get more PT with Simmons and Embiid though...gotta build the chemistry between those 3.

Yeah aside from the like 20 trades Ainge lost and the 20 draft picks that he busted on. None of these guys are gods or geniuses, just dudes making reasonable moves and then hoping for the best. Ainge's had a great run and deserves credit but the quickest way to make yourself look dumb on here is to pretend that any GM has the midas touch.

That trade was horrendous from the get go. And it's getting worse...

Seems like a Sixer top draft pick never starts on opening night.

What trades has Ainge lost, the Nets, gettin Thomas for a late first, getting Crowder and a first for Rondo, getting what looks like another high lottery pick from trading down from Fultz to Tatum? And the twenty draft picks that have busted? It's weird when you ask people to list them it's all guys drafted at the end of the first like RJ Hunter or Fab Melo, which teams do tend to mis on, especially when you have a GM that's been with a team for more than a century. How does that compare to missing on lottery picks like Okafor, MCW, Turner, or Noel(which I don't think is a bust but the return they got for him makes it seem that way).

At the time of the deal, the Laker pick projected to 7. That means the Celtics get the better of the Kings/Sixers 2019 1st top 1 protected. Also, Fultz projected to be a multiple time All Star. Tatum projected to be a rich man’s Rudy Gay.

Grade on results all you want, though. The car accidents of tomorrow are always so predictable.

The last time I heard a coach justify not starting the #1 overall pick was Anthony Bennett.

He's had a really good overall record, just hating on the genius nonsense. Just like everyone else, he evaluates where a player's at and where he might get to and then he says a little prayer. Ainge's missed on lots of trades and picks because everyone loses on trades and picks. He seems great at timing and dealing, but he's also had a lot of luck with players working out better than anyone expected.

Also you've maybe been on here too long when a post says 'don't pretend that any GM has the midas touch' and you assume that poster is arguing that Hinkie has the midas touch.

I'm pretty sure if your a top 10 pick in the NBA, you should be guaranteed a starting position, or is that just me?
