Kristaps Porzingis' Brother Warns Knicks Over Treatment

Kristaps Porzingis' older brother and agent, Janis Porzingis, recently spoke about the way the New York Knicks have treated their star players.

“(Skipping the exit interview) wasn’t an emotional decision,” Janis said, according to a translation from Eurohoops.net. “It wasn’t a spontaneous action. We had been thinking about it for a long time and it was considered an honest, well-thought decision we came up with together. It was a logical next step for us, without which we would’ve been in one situation, but now after we did it – we are in another.”

Janis thought it was contradictory how Kristaps was labeled unprofessional for skipping his exit meeting while Carmelo Anthony was praised.

“It’s interesting how many people who are even somehow involved in all of this, have criticized it afterward as something so unprofessional!! Just look at Melo, how he is handling things,” Janis said. “And I’m thinking, 'wait a minute.' In reality, if he for once decided to fight for something, we wouldn’t be in this situation and Kristaps wouldn’t be forced to take all the damage on himself. It wasn’t done for some personal interest or ambitions or dislike for someone, it was for the sake of overall peace.

"It should have been a task for the team’s leaders, but Melo and people around him never tried to change anything.”

Porzingis will be eligible for a contract exntension this offseason.

“The most important question here is this: What do you really want to achieve in your career?” Janis said. “Because money – if Kristaps performs at least on his normal level, is gonna come. We are more focused on some other values and not just to quickly sign a new contract so we can collect the money. That’s definitely not our goal, so we won’t be feverishly counting minutes or counting points. You can’t escape the reality and the Knicks must also see that.

"From their point of view, Kristaps is the focal point at the moment so you cannot upset him much or otherwise, at the end of the season, he will say 'it’s not so cool here.' The second question is: Who is the New York audience coming to watch now? To a large extent, it’s Kristaps. So the organization has to take that into account.”

KP Camp is right. NYK constant uncertainty gets placed on their players. KP's camp has made the initial correct chess move. They're not gonna fully commit to the NYK program unless NYK becomes 1st class org. Their move also signals to the rest of the league that they'll keep their options open. Good for them.

I think allot of these quotes are taken out of context I would suggest reading the article in full to get the context. I think the issue here is that there really may be no issue. NY Media being NY Media

This. I like the way he's playing so far this year (minus some shot selection mishaps), but I hate that he's a prima donna like this.

These types of players are a problem, no matter how good. I'd rather have someone with a kobe mentality.

Maybe he's just addressing what almost everyone is already aware of, that the Knicks organization from Dolan on down is dysfunctional. Nobody has to look far to see the circus that was the NY Knickerbockers these past 2 seasons.

I really like KPs game, and there is truth to many of that, but he made 2 huge mistakes:

1. Talk openly and criticize the franchise.
2. Never, ever hire family as agent

Haha, Kobe is probably the biggest prima donna in NBA history. Dude was always pouting, alienated team mates, got Shaq traded and asked to be traded more than once.

Kristaps has always carried himself with humility and plays on both ends of the court hard. Any team would want this guy, he's the unicorn. Knicks better recoginze and get their front office problems taken care of already or they will never get to build a quality team.

Carmelo has really poisoned KP.

Looks like KP and his crew are mimicking Carmelo’s antics.

For the knicks to build a winning team around Kristaps Porzingis.

These seem like annoying threats to treat KP like a king or he's out. Really annoying from his camp.
