The Milwaukee Bucks will waive Gary Payton II and plan on signing Sean Kilpatrick.

Payton's 45 days of service as a two-way player are coming to an end. Payton's release is not a popular move within Milwaukee's locker room.

Kilpatrick was waived by the Brooklyn Nets to create a roster spot following the trade for Jahlil Okafor and Nik Stauskas.

This is a normal human reaction.

It would be weird if players wanted to get rid of one of their teammates. Unless the guy is a flat out jerk.

Like most sequels, Gary Payton II was a flop. But I'm still showing up if they make a part III.

His dad is super wealthy. He'll be fine.

Kilpatrick isn't that bad, he can score somewhat.

Why are the son's of these all time greats never as good as their fathers? To name a few:
PAtrick Ewing Jr
Glen Robinson JR
David Stockton
Glen rice Jr
Austin rivers

Not to mention michael jordan had two son's that never even made it to the NBA.

Just weird that these guys wouldn't be elite like their fathers .

When the Okafor/Stauskas-to-Brooklyn deal went theough and the nets waived kilpatrick, I was like, “The Bucks are definitley going to sign him.” 3 weeks later, he’s signed by the Bucks. I’m freaking out right now cause out of all the 29 teams (excluding nets), the team I said should sign him actually did. #FearTheDeer

It tells you just how difficult it really is to be a professional athlete. It's not just genes, you have to have serious mental and physical toughness. Sometimes people who grow up rich, never needing anything, just don't have the same drive or will that propelled their fathers to greatness. And they don't need to because often they still have generational wealth to fall back on when basketball doesn't pan out.

Rarely you see it happen - Steph Curry is an example. His dad wasn't an all-time great but he was a solid pro.

Had a thread a few years back on the GB about this. The son's of the all time greats rarely become stars, but the stars of some solid role players have been able to become stars at the pro level. Steph, Devin Booker, and Kobe are a few of the second generation players that have fared better than their dads.

What I don't understand: Payton II was signed as a Two-Way Player. Can't he just play in the Bucks G-League team from now on and still retain his Two-Way Player status? I thought Two-Way Players didn't count to the maximum of 15 players that a team is allowed to sign?

Real simple. They grew up rich , thus no need to focus on basketball to make it big. They can do orhervthings. Also I bet they played lots of video games. Just too many things to do now days to focus on basketball

The grants aren't better than their Dads though which I is what OP had asked. Steph is an exception and clearly better than his old man though Dell wasn't on the level of Jordan or Stockton

I think you're confusing Harvey grant who played for the bullets and Horace grant who played for the bulls magic and lakers
