Heat Optimistic Of Ability To Trade Expensive Contracts

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Wed Jan 10, 2018 2:34 pm

The Miami Heat are expected to be active in trade talks leading to the deadline, according to sources. The Heat have optimism they could trade some of their expensive new contract while rival executives are skeptical.

The Heat have re-signed Hassan Whiteside, Tyler Johnson, Dion Waiters and James Johnson to expensive deals over the past two offseasons.

Johnson's deal elevates to $19 million next season.

Whiteside and Justise Winslow likely represent Miami's best trade package.

It depends on which deals MIA wants to move, and what they want in return. Good luck moving Waiters or James Johnson without adding picks. Tyler Johnson should have suitors. Whiteside would bring value, as should Dragic should Riley change his mind and want to go that way. Justise Winslow is just not that good, so I don’t see them getting much for him.

They think someone will take James Johnson? Yeah, that is pretty optimistic.

James Johnson is one of the most versatile PFs in the game, there'd be plenty of suitors.

Yeah he has a great skillset and makes an awesome role player... Just not for 19 mil a year. Contenders can't afford him, and non-contenders don't want to be hamstrung by that contract.

JJ is making 14 mil a year, you have your numbers wrong. It's Tyler Johnson that's going to start making 19 mil a year soon.

You're right. Well if the Cavs could somehow convince the Heat to take TT for him, or the Rockets could unload Anderson and pick up Johnson I'm all for it. I still feel like he's more of a complimentary piece rather than a building block though, and he's nearly 30, so I'm not sure why any non-contender would want to trade for him.
