The Orlando Magic have begun to explore the trade market on Aaron Gordon.
Gordon will be a restricted free agent this offseason.
Jeff Weltman and John Hammond were hired last offseason to run the Orlando front office and it is unclear which players they inherited remain part of their plans.
Gordon is averaging 18.4 points, 8.4 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game.

Yeah I'm confused. Isaac and Gordon are the only two pieces I wouldn't deal.

People hear “exploring market” and assume the team hates the player. He’s a young guy about to get a max contract. That is a big commitment. Seeing what other fish are in the sea beforehand is smart.

That’s the problem. We don’t know how good he is. But players like Otto Porter have set a precedence for promisig yet unproven players coming off rookie contracts getting mega money. AG will get that. You have to do your research before that day comes. I feel that is all Orlando is doing.
But if they did do a trade...
The one I keep suggesting is Gordon + Vuc for Kevin Love and the Brooklyn pick.
Love has been a headache in Cleveland for a while now and given his injury along with the pending free agency of Lebron, can they afford to wait? Gordon offers the high potential youth to offset losing that pick (yes, at a high price). Vuc isn’t a defender but he is a strong rebounder and an all-day midrange shooter at just $12M a year.
Orlando could walk away with Trae Young, Kevin Love and Mo Bamba. Not a bad kick starter group for new management.

If clevelands serious about competing this year, they ignore Lebron and go after this guy. They need to get younger and more athletic and someone who can give max effort during games. The roster full of vets pacing themselves during games isn't cutting it

I'll believe it only if Aaron was traded. They already face backlash trading away the former face of the franchise in Oladipo. No way i see them trading away a 22-yr old that has finally made that next step in his development. Unless an all-star is coming back

I like AG alot but they probably need a total rebuild in Orlando at this point. Another top 10 pick in this draft might make more sense for them than paying AG a max type deal? Hmmmmm.....

I share your reservations about putting AG on the block, but doing it for an all-star makes even less sense. They would have to commit to a full on rebuild to justify it.

That's wildly off base. Both Love and the BKN pick have significantly more value than either guy. Love isn't a MVP candidate but he's a reliable vet all-star who gives you steady efficient offense, great rebounding, and solid passing, and he's fully adapted his game to the Cavs' personnel. And while he's not the perfect personality fit with Lebron, he's a professional and the only reason you're thinking of him as a 'headache' is that the Cavs are under-performing and the trashy part of the media (the Stephen A Smiths of the world) are trying to create extra drama there. Vucevic is at the very best a worse fit for a Lebron offense.
Gordon has value as a player but most of his trade value's sucked down by being RFA this offseason. As you yourself said, you don't want to be maxing him and anyone who trades for him will instantly have to do so. And if he's making $23m a year he's no longer a particularly positive asset--definitely not enough of one to get you back a top-10 pick.
You sound sort of like my fellow Sixers fans last year who insisted for months that Noel and Okafor would get us the #5 and #10 picks from the Kings last year.

Cleveland is collapsing. The locker room is imploding. Trades of stars in such situations rarely return fair value.
Did the Clippers get equal talent in return for Griffin? Nope.
lol, Okafor and Noel are worthless busts. Gordon is about to get a max contract. He is a 20/10 player with a vastly improved 3-pt shot. For that reason he likely won’t be traded at all and this is simply an info gathering exercise as new management heads into contract negotiations.

Their only similarities are they’re both biracial and can jump really high. Outside of those two things they play absolutely nothing alike... at all. I have no idea why people keep comparing them.
It’s my opinion that since neither AG or Isaac can play SF that they’re willing to move him for another lotto pick some how.
We’ve been a dumpster fire for the last 5 years so who knows what they’re trying to do, but I feel like their line of thinking is use assets to re build from the ground up. The only play they’re committed to is Isaac... imo

biracial has nothing to do with it. i think of blake griffin's early career and i see a lot of it in aaron gordon.
elite athletic hybrid forwards with some ballhandling ability. similar in size/build. gordon is starting to branch out his offensive game on a similar trajectory to what griffin did. driving more. looking for the three. gordon isn't the passer blake is. but neither was blake at this point.
