Emeka Okafor To Sign 10-Day Contract With Pelicans

Emeka Okafor has agreed to sign a 10-day contract with the New Orleans Pelicans.

Okafor has played for Delaware in the G League this season.

Okafor hasn't played in the NBA since the 12-13 season due to injury.

The Pelicans need depth in the frontcourt following the season-ending injury to DeMarcus Cousins. The Pelicans were unable to secure a commitment from Greg Monroe.

I just saw a mixtape of him a couple weeks ago and realized that while he still has some game left in the tank, I doubt he will ever be an NBA player again. Well, I was wrong.

I'm pretty sure he would have wanted an NBA job the past couple years... but yeah, to be 7' and have an NBA team in need... Not bad

It does say something that 5 years after he played he's grinding in the D league for 26 games trying to make a comeback at 35. He really must want it even after making a ton of money.

It does say something that 5 years after he played he's grinding in the D league for 26 games trying to make a comeback at 35. He really must want it even after making a ton of money.

Dikembe Mutumbo was 43 when he retired from the Rockets, and he only did so because he was injured. We had no center for awhile when Yao kept going down and Chuck Hayes @ 6'6 was playing Center for our team. Oden had a lot of interest until he finally called it quits a year or so ago. I'm not surprised the league still has interest on Okafor but if I recall correctly he's always had a pretty lengthy injury list..

Mutumbo admitted to being 43! I don’t think he knew his date of birth. I seem to remember reading people thought he was a good few years older. When he got to Georgetown they just picked a birth date that sounded good.

Yeah I'm a little confused the Pelicans are signing him, there are better options in the G League.
