Marcus Smart Fined $15,000 For Criticism Of Officiating

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Tue Mar 6, 2018 10:50 pm

Marcus Smart has been fined $15,000 for public criticism of the officiating.

The comments were made following the Celtics’ 123-120 loss to the Houston Rockets on Saturday, March 3 at Toyota Center.

Smart was critical of the way James Harden is officiated.

"When you're playing a guy like that who gets those types of calls, it's pretty much like you're playing in foul trouble," Smart said after the game. "You've got to play really certain. You have to be really solid. You can't really play the defense that you want, because you know nine times out of 10 he's going to get those calls. It doesn't matter whether your hands are up or not. He still gets them.

"We saw that here tonight a few times, and we've seen that every other game. He has a way of using his hands, grabbing us, pulling us into him and drawing those fouls. He's been doing it for a long time. He gets the benefit of the doubt."

Nice birthday gift NBA!

As far as Smarts comments goes it's hard to feel sorry for the guy considering his game is garbage all he does is go out and mug people and can't shoot a lick he's basically bruce bowen without a 3PT shot. Of course since it's Boston it gets repackaged into Smart is a gritty player and instead if him being a delusional ahole it's he's got heart; similarly to how IT personality issues were repackaged and somehow only surfaced in CLE.

Where have you been? It's been like that for ages. Thing is, tho, the refs don't call it the same way in the playoffs.

Thanks for the honesty.

Besides your whining about Smart as a person or player, what's your take on what's he complaining on?

We all know the NBA is like this now, if you wanted a man's game Marcus you should have picked football or soccer.

Harden drives by leading with the off hand, always.
He’d of been a great halfback. NBA loves the glamour of a big scorer.
Smart was fined for being brutally honest, it really didn’t sound like he was complaining.

“It happens all around the league. You get certain players who get calls that other guys just wouldn’t get. We all know the rule. We all understand it. Superstars are going to be superstars. We get it. It is what it is. We’ve just got to play.” There is the rest of the conversation. Why is RealGM cherry picking? Lebron pretty much said the same thing concerning himself 2 or 3 weeks ago. Not fined.

Pot meet kettle. Smart has been undercutting everyone in the league and falling down when he gets breathed on. For all of Hardens traveling and flailing on offense Smart does the same on defense.

I'm going to "repackage" your irrational hate of Boston as respect for a team you wish you were a fan of.

I also think it's time to start fining the officials who make bad calls
Silver, go back and review the game and for every blown call lets fine them.

NBA players are pro's and have careers to protect. If we hold the officials responsible, maybe, just maybe, they will stop with the "all star calls."

Didn't Boston win a game earlier this year after Smart flopped egregiously twice in the last minute vs Harden?

It's called super star calls. When it's 50/50 on who is at fault or if it should be called, the super star player gets the advantage. It's been around for a long time, but Harden has become a master of forcing these situations. Let's not pretend Harden is the only one who does this, he's just the most prolific at it. Lebron gets most fouls to go his way when he initiates contact. Durant invented the rip through. Wade blatantly jumps into people.

The solution isn't to punish the refs or the players. The players intentionally try to trick the refs, so you can't blame the refs for something you need slow-mo replay to figure out? We, the hypocritical fan base, don't care what the players on our team do as long as they win, so we reward flopping as long as it's on our team.

The solution is: The NBA needs to call less fouls overall. There should be no light contact fouls. When there's a lot of contact, but it's 50/50 on who caused it, it should be a no call. When a grown ass 240lb man flies 15 yards across the deck, but the man he's guarding does not it violates the 3rd rule of physics and is not a foul. Super stars will still get their super star calls. Floppers will still get their flopper calls. However, it would be a much smaller impact on the game. We don't need to see Smart flopping his way to a win the first time, then Harden drawing fouls to a win the second time.

This clown has the nerve to complain when his whole game is based on flopping.
Just put a lid on it and continue to improve your ugly shot there Flipper
