Stan Van Gundy: Referees Embarrassing For NBA

Stan Van Gundy was sharply critical of the officiating following Detroit's loss to the Blazers on Saturday.

"It's embarrassing. It's embarrassing for them and embarrassing for the league," Van Gundy said of Saturday's officiating.

"I've been here for four years and many more years before that, and I've never come in after a game -- never, never come in after a game -- and talked like this. That was embarrassing," he said. "We got absolutely screwed tonight."

While Van Gundy credited Portland for how well they played, he still noted that he thought the refs made a big difference in his team's loss.

"A big part of [the Blazers'] defense -- they play very hard, I don't mean to take anything away from them -- but when you can get away with playing like that and get screwed that badly by the officials, your defense is going to be pretty good," Van Gundy said.

The Blazers won by 13 and shot 2 less free throws than Detroit. I'm not sure how that could be the deciding factor.

I'm sure you'll see a rant like this from Casey too, the refs completely controlled pace/flow of the Thunder/Raps game today.
Absurdly late whistles for OKC some pretty pathetic non calls on the other end and the worst part is calls that only 1 team is getting both ways in most cases.
It's really hard to play the game when you never know what is going to be called when and very frustrating when one team is clearly favored by the whistle.

Naw, you won't hear about it from Casey. He knows he has to start sucking up to the refs and hope and pray that the occasional one calls a game fairly in the playoffs. If he rants now, he knows he will just be pissing them off.

SVG can do it all he wants because they won't make the playoffs.

The sad part was it was so seemingly blatant that even OKC fans were commenting on how the Raptors were being jobbed by the refs today.

The crazy part of that is OKC players were complaining abut the calls earlier in the season. It was strange seeing them on the other side of that.

It didn't help that Casey complained about the calles the game before.
